Hi guys.

There is a lot of talk about resistance to antibiotics by bartonella. What does it mean? If, for example, you used rifampin for two months, and this becomes resistant, does it mean that when you add minocycline or another antibiotic to rifampin, the latter will not work? or in combination with another is not resistant? I am very scared, because these months with the herx, i've stopped antibiotics several times, the rifampin 2 times, the minocycline 5 times and the ceftriaxone 3. I am now with the minocycline and the rifabutin, but it is not the same as when I was with mino + rifampin ... but I'm afraid to change rifampin because I do not know if it has become resistant to bartonella ...

It's thought that resistance could happen if treating with only one antibiotic at a time.

Although I've also read that the lyme and co's don't replicate as often as 'other' bacteria do, so resistance isn't generally a problem.

I don't know why the Rifabutin isn't working as well as the Rifampin. Are you saying you're not herxing?
Maybe you haven given the Rifabutin long enough...or is it possible that you knocked back Bart some when on the rifampin?

Don't worry so much about starting and stopping. There's a very experienced, well-known LLMD who's protocols are in pulsed format.

How long have you been on the Rifabutin...and what dose is it and your other antibiotic you're on?

It seems to me that you are switching it up a lot? You do need to be patient and stick with one protocol for several months.

Mino and Rifabutin will target lyme along with Bart.

OriolCarol did you first start with the minocycline or with the rifabutin ?
Which one is hitting you harder?
How long do you plan on taking this combo ?
Are you pulsing ?

I have read that Rifabutin is more effective...but not sure if it's stronger in the CNS.
