As title says, I have the "classic" bullseye ring around the bite. I'm not sure 100% how long it was there for,but I just went down to my mother's house on Saturday and her dog was on me so I'm guessing it was from that. But when I pulled the tick off there was already the red ring.

I saw a doc and they pretty much laughed at me and said it must be a skin infection. Nevertheless, I got 100mg of doxy to take twice a day. On forums with people well versed in Lyme, they say it's definitely it.

So I'm looking for a LLMD near Stoughton, MA 02072.

Any help is appreciated.Thank you

Here is the pic right after I pulled tick off https://imgur.com/z2E1oJL

This is the second pic about 6 hours later https://imgur.com/XHkZYcn

Hi JFlungo - welcome!

So, this happened three days ago?

I suggest you go to another Dr. and get another prescription for Doxy. You should be taking 200 mg twice daily. How many weeks of doxy did you get? You want to nip this NOW....to minimize your chances of a chronic lyme infection.

You will want to take the 200 mg twice daily doxy for several weeks.
Looks like you are developing an EM (bullseye rash) - which warrants 6 weeks of abx.

I have pasted a link to the Lyme treatment guidelines (ILADS) below - scroll down to page 19:

"EARLY LOCALIZED - Single erythema migrans with no constitutional symptoms:
1) Adults: oral therapy- must continue until symptom and sign free for at least one month,
with a 6 week minimum."

www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Page 18 in the guidelines will show the doxy dosage (200 mg twice daily)

You can print the information off and bring it to your Dr.
Find another Dr. if your Dr. won't give you enough doxy.

I have several LLMD"s listed for MA. Send me an email if you want the contact information.
When you call them, explain you just got bitten and have the rash...and need to see the Dr. a.s.a.p.
You don't want to have an appointment several weeks out. Hopefully you can find a LLMD that will take you in right away.

Take the doxy with food. (But not foods with calcium and magnesium - so no dairy)

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thank you very much for the info. He gave me two weeks worth but I am going to start taking 400mg daily asap. I will run out of the prescription quicker in 6 days but I am going to schedule an appointment with my PCP and also try to get in touch with an LLMD as well. If I have no luck, I will go to another ER to get another prescription for doxy. I'm trying to eliminate it before it spreads so I'm going to cut out all sugars, and eat lots of vegetables, seeds, and fish. Plus going to get a gym membership.

Thank you again for the link. I will keep this thread updated.

Okay - you can send me an email by clicking on the envelope under my screen name - if you want the contact informstion of some LLMD's.

I'm happy to hear you are taking this seriously and will treat it right away.

If you read some of the posts on this forum, you will get a picture of what happens if you get chronic Lyme.
It's a life changer.

Yes I've already sent you an email, thank you.

I just hope I'm doing enough to stop it in its tracks now. Like I said, I'm not EXACTLY sure how long the tick was on me as I've read that the bullseye usually comes a little after the bite. But, it was already there when I pulled the tick off and it just had to have been from Saturday when I went down to the woods to see my mom. Even though I wasn't even outside, it could have come from the dog.

I wish I had known to take the 400mg instead of the 200g otherwise I would have started doing it yesterday. I'd feel alot better knowing I had the higher dose in me sooner. But I guess it's better late than never to start doing the 400mg.

You don't have any symptoms, right? Just the rash at the bite sight.

No flu like symptoms....fever....muscle aches...?

Oh...you should be taking probiotic daily.
Separate then from the abx though.

take the probiotics in the evening, a minimum of a couple hours after your second doxy dose .

You can also take another dose of probiotics in the day - lunch time would be good.

You can get probiotics in capsule form in health food stores...and grocery stores. Buy the ones that are kept in the fridge.
You can also buy Kefir - it's in the dairy section of grocery stores.

So I saw my PCP today as she could get me in right away and I wanted to get more of the doxy. I got the same results I did with the ER doctor despite my protests. She would only give me 200mg a day despite my protests of 400g. She was laughing at me as I told her I thought 400mg would be best and when she asked why I told her it's what I've read online on health forums. She sarcastically just goes "Forums." She had a training doctor with her so I'm sure she was extra defensive because of that.

At least she gave me 21 days worth versus the 14 days the ER doc gave me. At this rate, I think I'll take 400mg for a week then go down to 200mg for the remainder. I can't get a LLMD as I can't afford the doctor visits.

I just can't stand doctors not really caring about their patients and laughing all the time now. Professionalism is gone, I swear. Wish me luck guys!

Can you go to a third Dr and get another script?

I understand that you can’t afford to see a LLMD (I have read your email) but do you realize how debilitated you can be if this goes chronic ? You may not be able to work - financially that will be a lot worse than the cost of a LLMD appt.

I haven’t been able to work for 4 years now. You may just need one appt with a LLMD to nip this now.

Next time you go to the Dr take the Lyme Treatment Guidelines with you,

Sorry Girlie didn't see your comment about the symptoms and probiotics, etc.

No I don't have any symptoms except being very tired all the time. I think I will buy the probiotic and try out the Kefir too. Thank you for the suggestions.

I did do blood tests at the PCP so I'll wait to hear back the results but I know they are pretty inaccurate, and the lyme in early stages might not show. I might end up making another ER visit and try to get 3 weeks worth of doxy from another doctor, and take that in double doses to accommodate the 400mg. Seems like doc's don't want to give me 400mg daily, just the 200mg. But I'm worried my insurance is going to get red flags and contact me - that would be 3 different prescriptions of doxy.

I suggest that if you can’t get enough doxy that you buy some herbs and continue to treat herbally.

Since it’s not chronic Lyme at this point - you can take Astragalus. See if you can get it locally - if not purchase it online.

Woodland Essence is a good source.
... or Green Dragon Botanicals is another .

Yes I heard about the Atralagus. I'm going to go to the store now and get some probiotics, astragalus, and kefir.

One last question - what would a LLMD do for me differently other than give me the right amount of prescription? Is it totally necessary with the knowledge I've been given?

That is what you need - the right amount of doxy for the right amount of time.

What knowledge have you been given?

Do what you can....to get this treated and not have it go chronic. I can't emphasize this enough.

The testing you will most likely get will not be good enough to show anything...and it's quite early - your body may not have had time to develop the antibodies for a positive test result.

Well all the knowledge I gained from you of course! And other websites/forums.

As of right now I got a 50 billion cfu probiotic that is sealed in individual cases so no refrigeration required. Also got the astralagaus root as I've heard alot of people say that helps. Got a multivitamin for good measure too.

Going to make an appt with a third Doctor and bring that paperwork. He is a nicer guy and may give me what I ask for. As of right I'm sticking to 400mg doxy a day, eating alot of green veggies, seeds, tuna and turkey. And taking the vitamins/supplements. Also getting a gym membership when I get out of work.

I hope this will be enough to halt this from getting worse. Here's another pic of the bite, about 2 days after removing tick now. https://imgur.com/a/qU6J1

I'll keep this post going as a way to show progression/ways to treat possible early Lyme. Wish I could rename the post lol.

That bite looks nasty - good thing you’re treating - how’s your stomach?

Would you consider taking "fish" doxy available from a pet store? I heard it is the same as the Rx.

or doxy can be ordered from AllDayChemist online as well...but it takes awhile to arrive. Possibly 2-4 weeks.

I'm stressing out. Insurance won't cover more doxy until the 9th. And then that still won't be enough for the recommended dosage. I might end up spending a ton of $$$ that I don't have paying out of insurance and seeing a LLMD. I wish the two doctor's I've seen actually helped me instead of telling me to shrug it off. That is infuriating me right now. Now I'm going to be paranoid for the rest of my life that I have Lyme. I have aches and pains in knee, elbow and I think kidneys and I'm not sure if it's me being paranoid or not. Extremely tired constantly. Also a headache when I woke up. Awesome. I should have NEVER gone down to see my mom in the woods and just stayed in the city. I knew it was a bad idea, but didn't think I'd get lyme disease out of it.

Now I am just getting out of a severe alcohol/weed addiction and only been 1 month 1 week clean so that could be attributing to the fatigue. And the pains/headache could just be the way I slept and normal due to all the medicine/vitamins I'm taking now. But, not sure.

tickbite666 - I looked up the fish doxy and although tempting I guess it's not FDA approved. So not too crazy about that idea. But it is a consideration - I'm sure paying for doxy without insurance will be alot of money.

Edit: SCORE! Just found 8.48 rx of doxy on goodrx.com 100mg 20 capsules. So 10 days for 200mg. Not sure how this works with the prescription I already have because it's 100mg 42 capsules though. Probably can't use it. But it's an option. Anyone experience this before?

Girlie - doesn't look like they have doxyclyine on AllDayChemist online. Dox T-SL seems to be the only thing even close.
