Hi guys

Finally I've started with a llmd in French and he wants to change mino for doxy. I don't want that rifampin decrease doxy levels and i want to tell him if it would possible to put doxy together and at night put rifampin once a day... because if i separate it and rif has poor half life...maybe it shouldn't interact really?

I don't know much about this, but I do know that when doctors pulse antibiotics, they have you take two or three together to reduce the chance of developing resistance or an allergy. Just something to consider.

I think The half life of Rifampin is 4-6 hours (I will check later - I’m laying in bed now)

Even though riffy may reduce effectiveness of doxy - some LLMD’s do pair them together.

I know sometimes Rifampin is dosed 600 once daily but haven’t seen doxy taken 400 once daily.

Maybe ask your dr about it.

What about taking the riffy say at 8:00 a.m and doxy at noon- by the time you take doxy...the blood levels of riffy will be lower (maybe only half) and my not have as much effect on the doxy.
Evening dose could be 5:00 and 9:00.

Not sure if it would make much difference tho.

Again - a discussion with your Dr - tell him your concerns

EDIT - to correct - i had mixed up the doxy/rif originally.

OriolCarol - have you thought about subscribing to the "TreatLyme" online book? I think it's something like $4.99 per month.
LLMD MR is the 'owner' of the site. Lots of different abx protocols...and other information about treating...etc.

Yes, I'm subscribed now. My llmd says it's goot combine doxy with rif. Take rif at 9:30 pm for example and doxy at 7:30 am because there is no rifampin in my blood and then doxy can work at high doses until 9:30 pm. Is it logicall?

My llmd says that i don't have to worry abot resistance because the studys show that bartonella bacilloformis develop rapid resistance to rifampin... but i'm worried anyway

Some LLMD's do prescribe Rifampin 600 mg once daily. I took it 300 twice, then my LLND switched it to 600 once.

Not sure if that would help though because I don't know if the doxy should be done once daily.

Why is your Dr. switching? Why not continue with minocycline?

I think since LLMD MR prescribes doxy with the Rifampin - it should be okay?
It may only lower doxy concentrations minimally...or maybe not at all. It does say "may" in my drug interaction checker...

The ceftriaxone is the same as Rocephin, right? You were on an IV with Rifampin?

Yes, that is two antibiotics...it's fine.
