Hello all,

Curious as to if anyone has any luck with seeing an infectious disease specialist over seeing their regular doctor or a Lyme literate doc?

If you have seen a infectious disease specialist what did they do?

Thank you!

I saw an infectious disease specialist and it took him under 30 minutes to send me to a psychiatrist. I honestly thought he was going to institutionalize me

Hi Lbean- welcome!

Unless the ID Doc is Lyme Literate - I think you will be disappointed - as they don’t usually subscribe to ILADS policies.
The ID Doc will most likely negate your symptoms could be from Lyme and even if he does - he will not accept test results from the labs that specialize in tickborne disease testing.

If you do have a positive test result from the lab that the medical system uses then you will be prescribed a week or two of antibiotics and be sent on your way. Any leftover symptoms will be attributed to PTLDS (post treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome) and you are stuck with them.

I have never read where anyone got a desirable response or any positive help from an infectious disease specialist or any dermatologist for that matter.

I have not seen an infectious disease doc but I did see multiple dermatologists smile Was so much fun. Should do it again.

No I mean. They demeaned me, mocked me, and dismissed me. When I questioned their dismissal - keep in mind I had skin rashes, pimples, etc and obvious external symptoms - they said patients who waste doctor's time get treated like that. One recommended that I buy expensive creams from Europe that his wife was hawking. He also condescendingly suggested that all my symptoms were due to depression and I needed medication - for depression.

Fortunately my excellent therapist was a light in the darkness and pointed out that being depressed because you are ill is different to being ill because you are depressed.

..and being depressed because it's a symptom of the disease.

I'm sorry that these so-called "Specialists" disrespected you and behaved like idiots.
There is no excuse for that.
