I started Rifampin last Thursday, and yesterday I started having this really strange numbness on the left side of my stomach. It feels like its on the skin but also inside. The numbness extends to my lower back kidney area where there is pain.

Should I stop the Rifampin for a couple days to see if it subsides or is this probably a bartonella herx?

It is really scary and I am not sure what to do...Has anyone experienced this before?

I haven't experienced that before....it could be a herx...

I think maybe stopping for a day or two is warranted. When do you see/talk to your Lyme Doc next?

Not until May 9th so 7 weeks away...

Is there anything I should be doing for kidney or liver support? I know milk thistle shouldn't be taken but what about like glutathione? I've never tried that before.

I have been taking apo-hepat by pekana for a couple years now and so far my liver function tests have stayed in range.
They were elevated for awhile when I was on Lyme treatment in 2015 and my LLND switched me from MT to it.

You can’t take MT with riffy because if the cytochrome p450?

I think glutathione is good - but I’ve read some types aren’t very effective.
A LLND gave me a liquid form but I couldn’t stomach it - horrible taste/smell

I don’t think I took anything specifically for my kidneys.
I know Pekana has a supplement though.

Problem is finding a place to order pekana online - It wasn’t on Amazon or iherb when I last looked.
I’m going to check the treatlyme.net site (LLMD MR) - he has a store on the site.

I have a lot of neuropathic issues in a band around my waist, almost level with the navel; it can travel up the center of my abdomen almost to the sternum. I blame bart.

Have you been treating bartonella? Taking Rifampin or Mepron?

Just trying to see what could be causing this for us. My girlfriend is a nurse and she mentioned stomach ulcer..but I think it is something more related to infections or meds.

Update from LLMD:

She said that she thinks its neuro and it is likely a bartonella herx. She told me to continue the Rifampin and let her know if the pain increases or doesn't stop after 7-10 days.

I think I will stay off Rifampin though just to give me peace of mind that it is a herx and can stop and not damage.
Very sick starting around 07/2016
Started treatment 03/2017
Bixain & Cefdinir - 3 months - plateaued
Then Biaxin & Minocycline - 3 months - did not improve
Tinidazole - 500MG 2x a day - 2 weeks
Now taking:
Mepron 5mL 2x a day
Zithromax
Nystatin
Cats Claw - 30 drops 2x a day
Gou Teng - 30 drops 2x a day
CSA - 40 drops 2x a day
Japanese Knotweed - 40 drops 2x a day

I've had this with all the antibiotic, specially with rifabutin. It's dificult to say that it's bartonella... in my case it could be lyme or bart

NAC is the precursor to glutathione. I would go with that, or you could do both (for detox purposes, then ease up on the glutathione).
