Hi everyone,

I have been having a horrible time for 3 months now. I had started houttunyia and what I just realized yesterday, was that I also started a new type of cat's claw for me - Rainforest Uncarine Max, two days prior to starting houttunyia. I know the houttunyia stirred up a lot of this, but

I have been off houttunyia for one month and my symptoms remain:

1. Waking up at 3-4am every night even with 3mg lunesta
2. Unable to nap
3. Serious restlessness/anxiety/worry
4. Waking up with light night sweats or skin pain on the part of my body touching the bed

edit to add:
5. eye floaters
6. frequent urination
7. muscle twitches, mainly in legs

I am doing burber/pinella, sasparilla, epsom bath, lemon water

I did some web searches and I did find a few examples of lymies reporting insomnia, sometimes pretty bad, with various forms of cat's claw or samento.

Unfortunately, I had been on the Uncarine for 3 months and have now only been off for two days and still feel horrible.

I am hoping that some of the old timers on here may know if this could be from the Uncarine. If it's from the infections I am really, really worried because I don't know when this will end.

Thank you so much for your help

A lot of us have had the early 3 - 4 am awakenings and not be able to fall back asleep. It will pass with treatment.

Lyme and/or Bart has a way with messing with your adrenals is what most folks have reported.

Thanks tick,

that is my biggest fear because the awakenings happen even with serious sleep pharma meds and I can't nap during the day, also my anxiety has been at a 10 for quite some time. I would not be able to continue to treat in this condition

I had asked my lyme doc about the cortisol test and he said we can talk at the next appointment so he didn't seem overly concerned about it

yes you can herx very badly from cat's claw alone, especially if u take a larger dose.

it's pretty simple, herxes will make you feel better in time. if after 6 months you do not feel better but worse, progressively worse, then especially if u stop treatment for a few weeks and u continue to feel worse, my hint is you are not herxing but actually your disease is progressing and the pills you take do nothing. in such case i advise you discuss with your doctor a change in treatment.

6 months is a good time to wait and expect some improvement, even a little. For any kind of treatment.

This is purely a thought - if you subscribe to TCM their body clock would suggest that your Liver is overtaxed (which is probably true for many Lyme sufferers)

Those symptoms you mentioned are all common bartonella symptoms. If you're worried about the cat's claw, just take a break from it. Houttuynia will address bart. So will sida acuta. So will Japanese knotweed.

Try restarting the houtty at a much reduced dosage. Don't pick up where you left off a month ago. Start with maybe 1/4 of what you were taking and slowly work up. Add additional herbs like sida acuta and isatis and alchornea. There are many other herbs in the bartonella protocol - EGCG with quercetin, cordyceps, Japanese knotweed (essential IMO), ashwaganda, rhodiola, Hawthorne, milk thistle, and more.

You may find restarting houtty at a reduced dosage may help those symptoms.

Clove and oregano oils helped me get started on bart. Clove is part of the A-Bart formula. You can apply essential clove oil to your soles, you might have to start with one drop diluted in a carrier like coconut oil. I use gloves to avoid sensitizing other areas of my body. Oregano oil capsules are easy to find.

I'd try and take a short break, see if you can recover a baseline, and then restart the medicines but at lower doses like WalkinbyFaith mentioned. For me, if I've been herxing hard it can take quite a few days/week to recover the baseline. Best to try and avoid burning oneself out with herxing, especially if it is constant!

Btw I def got most of those symptoms especially when I was herxing badly!
