So I got blood work back and my ana is positive and it's homogenous pattern! What does this mean? When I google it is says lupus. Also my Epstein Barr is 111, normal range is less then 18! Feeling really scared! I was off all antibiotics for 2 weeks when we tested. Any input as always would be great!

tonya - is this the first time your ANA has been tested?

It can happen with lyme disease. I've seen several members post about it before.

Same with the EB virus. Lyme has lowered your immunity, allowing the EB virus to become reactivated.

Whether or not to treat the EB virus - depends on the Dr. Some do, some don't.

Try not to worry about it...the + ANA should go away with treatment.

Thanks Girlie! I just saw my llmd, he isn't concerned about either the ANA or the Epstein Barr, he really feels strongly that Bart is at the fore front and is starting me on rifampin. I wish I wasn't so scared to take it...but I guess it's the only way to know if things could potentially get better. He said that I have to start with 300 twice a day, I asked if I could cut it in half or even just take one and he said that it's important to do it this way so it doesn't become resistant. Didn't you say you started with a half a dose? I am so very sensitive so it worries me!

Yes, I did start with lower dose - actually 1/4 dose. I took a 300 mg cap and divided it and took approximately 150 mg per day for several days - then went to 300 mg per day...and finally 300 X2

But, I was already on minocycline....

Are you already taking an antibiotic to go with the Rifampin?

I didn't stay on the lower dose for long. I think it was a few weeks only and I was up to the 300 twice daily.

I think - in part - my LLND was concerned about my liver enzymes...as I was coming off a 2 1/2 mont abx break before starting mino, and then riffy.

So, I had a blood test done on the 300 mg per day level...and all was fine..so I went to 300 twice.

There are expressible (switchable) genes related to the ANA antibody. During lyme I was also ANA pos, then after, became ANA neg. Like others, It changed.

Thanks Astroman! My esr levels for inflammation were really good so he didn't think we needed to worry about any autoimmune diseases.

Girlie- I just looked at the notes for my prescription and it says 100 mg of rifampin 2x a day! Maybe they made a mistake but that seems low compared to what I've read, although maybe it's because he knows I'm so sensitive!!

whhaaaattt? oh my that is really low.

I would call the pharmacy and ask them to check.

You did say that your LLMD said to start with 300 twice per day, right?

I'm pretty sure, I'll pick up prescription tomorrow and find out, maybe it was just an error on the notes!

I tested positive ANA (speckled) at one point, but then when I retested some time later, I was negative again. At the time, I was a bit concerned, of course. But now, I'm not. It went back to negative after I did some treatment (probably for the yeast but so much overlap with herbals so who knows).
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Still sick now despite being treated for years but doing better (not well yet).
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.
