I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the herbs used for treating lyme in France. I'm currently trying to figure out which herbs are permitted as we will be travelling there for 3 weeks and as far as I can tell a number of the herbs I'm currently using are not officially on the permitted list for herbal preparations and I keen to avoid any trouble with what I choose to bring with me. It's not clear to me if there are 'personal use' exemptions.

This list of herbs that I am taking that are not included on the BELFRIT list of herbs allowed in food supplements includes Cryptolepsis, Bidens, Sida, and Knotweed. Schisandra, Dan Shen, Isatis, and Ashwagandha are all on the BELFRIT list but it appears they are not yet on the official list of permitted herbs in supplements for France (I'm going by a list from 2014 which is the best I can find) so they're probably out as well.

Anyone from France on the list here who can suggest what is used there?

Thoughts on substitutions or experiences with reducing your protocol for a few weeks would be most welcome. I feel like I've made good progress in the 8 months or so that I've been treating and I'm keen not to experience a major backslide while we're away.

My current guess for a tolerable protocol for treating borellia, babesia, and bartonella for a 3 week period while I'm away is the following:

Cat's Claw (I can take both)
Bakail Skullcap
Rhodiola
Hoyuttania
Eleuthro
Andrographis
Milk Thistle
Nigella Sativa

I'm considering including Astragulus as I've used it in the past and I have yet to decide if it's beneficial for me.

Any and all thoughts most appreciated.

Am I perhaps being overly cautious / concerned (is that lyme anxiety lol)?

Would non-listed herbs simply count as medicines for personal use? I rarely even take so much as aspirin with me when I travel.

sandyfeet - HawaiiPharm ships their herbals to France. So, I don't think you'll have a problem with bringing your herbs with you.

Thanks Girlie, that's good to know! I was seriously beginning to wonder what I would have done if I lived in the EU and didn't have access to some of the most important (for me at least) herbs like Crypto and Knotweed. I'm feeling very grateful at the moment that things are not currently restricted in North America and perhaps this is not being enforced abroad yet, it's just for people marketing products in the country.

I know many people have mentioned bringing a letter with them to travel but I don't have an MD who would do so. I know some people pre-ship which might be an option.

I wouldn't seriously expect problems, but I'm not sure I'm keen on trying to explain what I'm bringing with me if my luggage were searched especially if it can't theoretically be legally sold in the country. I just want to get as quickly and as easily as possible to where I want to go. smile

Cat's Claw is on the legal list thankfully mpost, but there didn't seem to be much rhyme or reason from what little I know of herbs for the ones on or off the current list. I'm hoping it's just lyme anxiety talking. smile
