I have tried cheap hard caplets in the past, I think I'll try this Now brand capsule next:

Thankfully, I have not had major anxiety in quite some time, I do remember it though, thus try to reply to anxiety posts from others.

I still have some AM brain fog, which is unfortunately very common with Hashimoto, even with proper thyroid levels. Coffee helps, but also make me jittery. I'm trying to ditch coffee.

Taurine is in Red Bull which always gave me a calm mental focus, NOT hyper "alertment". Unlike some energy drinks, there is less caffeine in RB than coffee. The taurine takes the edge off caffine.

L-theanine can also be combined with taurine, some like this combo.

*Taurine is an amino acid and, unlike L-theanine, is also good for muscle control.* It is a precursor to several brain chemicals including GABA. GABA alone can have a tranquilizer effect in some people though, it would knock me out, with a hangover later on.

Some might need Choline, covered on this forum quite a bit, or its precursors before it. If you have enough already, this can make you edgy though.

I might have to give this a try. I've been having slight AM brain fog as well, even though I consider myself otherwise mostly healthy. Coffee is a necessity for me; will never function without it.

Any luck with Acetyl-l-Carnitine? I tried doing it to help with focus and nerve healing, but I think it might actually me make me feel worse. Have to experiment with it some more to actually tell.

I have not used Acetyl-l-Carnitine or NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cystine) in a few years. They both made me edgy at the time, like caffeine, not the vest with anxiety. Hyper alert while still unfocused is not the best feeling.

I never tried combining them with Taurine though, they might compliment each or or cancel each out.

Taurine seems to calm and focus vs "excite". Calm energy is hard to achieve for some people.

Well for one thing I know Taurine is the antidote to the de facto poison MSG (Monosodium Glutamate).

I can get racing heart and agitation just from MSG laden foods and Taurine makes it vanish.

I don't want to get off on a rant here but there are a lot of chemicals used in foods and industry that are going to have long term health consequences:

*Plastic particulates mimicking estrogen for one
* Mono Sodium Glutamate wasn't meant to be used as a massive additive, it's literally just the taste of a sizzling steak
* Flouride lowers IQ
* Aspartame poisons neurotransmitters

but I digress

I buy and use Taurine. I buy it as a bulk Powder online, much cheaper that way.

I started Taurine in hopes to clear gall sludge. Is 1000mg a good amount? I keep my remaining aminos intake far away from the others.

Greetings! A word of caution: cherry picking amino acids can cause other unintended problems. I would start low dose if anything.

Well, people should know everything here on this forum is trial and error.

For me Taurine has Minimal effect at 500MG, and its not a nuerotransmitter amino acid like GABA or 5-HTP for example, but does have some effect on them, as well as other effects.
Had initial lyme symptoms late 80's, then again and with bullseye early 90's. Ended ABX for Lyme in 2015. Rebuilding / fine tuning / fixing muscles since then; member "10 Percenters Lyme Club". What an adventure this has been. Hashimotos adds to the enjoyment.
