After taking a month of Mepron/Zith, followed by 2 weeks off (the worst 2 weeks of my life due to the herx it caused), my LLMD put me on Coartem, 2x/day, every Fri/Sat/Sun for 4 weeks. I tolerated it extremely well with only a few bad days during the whole month and honestly feel like I am now winning the war against Babesia Duncani. I was expecting my LLMD to switch me to Malarone at my appointment on tuesday but he said continue with Coartem for another 6 weeks. Has anyone taken Coartem longer than a month? Or any other experiences with it? It seems to be a wonder drug for me and I’m hoping it’s still effective at killing the babs the longer I take it. I know I need 4-5 months minimum to treat babs and this will take me to 14 total weeks of the 18 or so that are minimally required. Throughout this time I have been taking zith on the 4 days opposite coartem and have been taking doxy all 7 days but now am beginning Minocycline tonight.

Also, anyone know if Coartem is tough on the liver? It has to be better than Mepron right? Mepron is the only time during my 5-6 months of treatment with ABX where my enzymes became elevated.
Symptoms began Aug 2017.
Dx with Lyme 10/13/17. Rx with Doxy/Zith/Tindamax x 2-3 months (80% improvement)
Dx with Babesia Duncani 1/2018. Rx with Mepron/Zith/Doxy x 1 month
2 week break due to worst herx/experience of my life
Coartem/Zith/Doxy 2/2018-3/2018 (60% improvement)
Coartem/Zith/Mino beginning 3/30/18

winning the war on duncani. that got a good laugh out of me lol.

duncani is a super b*tch to get rid of just when you think you're making progress you get whacked.

while everyone is different expect 9-12 months of hitting this heavily to have any attempt at clearing it. took me 9 months first go round then another year before putting it to bed, well i think to bed.

you can do coartem rounds many times but it will lose its effectiveness thats what happened to me after 3 rounds or so. switching to malarone/mepron is the right approach and to stay on that until its dead and buried.

How did you determine that you had beaten it? What was your treatment if you don’t mind my asking? I will not go back on Mepron unless my life depends on it. Malarone will be next after this additional 6 week course of coartem is done.

Any other Duncani folks out there? If so, How long did it take y’all to beat it?
