I’ve been on Doxy since Oct at 200mg BID with only a short switch to Tetracycline for 3 weeks in Jan, and am now on to Minocycline. I have been pushing my LLMD for this switch as most of my Lyme sx (and now babs) were psych or head related and Mino has superior CNS penetration. I am taking 100mg BID, took my first dose last night (Fri) and then 2nd this morning, and all day I’ve had overwhelming body fatigue. Is it likely that I’m herxing from 2 doses? Anyone have experiences to share when they switched? I also wanted to switch as I felt like at some point resistance to Doxy may be possible with such a long treatment length.

I had some symptoms when I started the minocycline.

I think I was more off-balance with it. And it actually ramped up my shivering. (most likely because it got into my brain)

For most of the day today it felt like all the energy had been drained from my body. Could be that Mino is penetrating areas of my body or brain that the doxy never got, or maybe it’s still the residual doxy in my system still hanging around while Mino is now added. I am feeling better now but just took my 3rd dose and am about to head to bed. This is why I always start new meds on the weekend so I have more time to adjust/rest and not affect my work week. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.
Symptoms began Aug 2017.
Dx with Lyme 10/13/17. Rx with Doxy/Zith/Tindamax x 2-3 months (80% improvement)
Dx with Babesia Duncani 1/2018. Rx with Mepron/Zith/Doxy x 1 month
2 week break due to worst herx/experience of my life
Coartem/Zith/Doxy 2/2018-3/2018 (60% improvement)
Coartem/Zith/Mino beginning 3/30/18

Girlie, or anyone else, when you had the symptoms with Minocycline, did they subside after a while or did they continue for the duration of use? I want to try to stay with Mino for a bit because I had been using Doxy so long but I need to be able to drive/work. I do feel a bit off balance this AM and tired (but so far the fatigue is not like yesterday thank God). Im also cycled onto coartem until tonight and that can cause dizziness as well.

The head stuff from the mino subsided - and I went back to baseline - which did include some head stuff from what I think is Babesia.

sigh - it's complicated.

Dizziness not really a problem today, hit a wall
With fatigue after lunch - hope that means it’s killing some stuff the doxy didn’t get!

You’re right, Girlie, this stuff is always complicated. I’m sure the babs is the root of it all.

Well, the minocycline herx truck (with maybe a pinch of coartem/babs contributing) arrived early this morning. Anxiety (that my klonapin onlynmildly helped), fatigue, insomnia, light head pressure, no appetite, and the shakes. Hoping this is killing the remnants of Lyme that the doxy didn’t get!

When I started mino things got pretty bad, dizzyness and head/ eye pressure and loss of cognitive function were the worst and I just generally felt like crap..

Im sorry to say all my symptoms got worse for the first 5 weeks with the 5th week being pure hell and was completely bed ridden for a couple of weeks.. At the time I didnt realise i should back of treatment when things got too bad and i just stuck with it out of pure stubborness and hope.

Eventually after 5 weeks I noticed I was getting small moments of relief which gradually got longer and longer.

After 2-3 months I was feeling considerably better than i did before treatment.

It may take some time but it does get better.

I’ve tolerated Mino pretty well overall save for 2 rough herx days, and my LLMD wants me to take it 3x/day. I haven’t really had any of the bad side effects at the 200mg dosage. Does anyone have experience taking it at 100mg 3x/day?

Can you guys please include whether or not you are pulsing the minocycline or taking it on a daily basis? Thanks. Much appreciated.

Spanish how long was your minocycline treatment? Did you combine it with any other abx ? Gracias.

I took it daily for many months. (With Rifampin)

Then I took it pulsed for many months. (With Rifampin and then with Mepron plus a 2nd antibiotic)
