Hey Everyone!
It has been awhile since my last post. To catch yall up I've been in remission from lyme since December of 2013. I thought I was relapsing a year ago, but it turned out to be that my body was just having a hissy fit since it can not process folic acid(c677t MTHFR). I got that taken care of (daily dose of methylfolate) and things seem to be going well. I still have a few minor post lyme complications, but all in all things are looking good. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a little over 2 years now. I have gone to a specialist that is LLMD and he seemed to think the lyme had not affected my chances of having my own baby. Yes it would be a high risk pregnancy if it happened, but it should be possible....yet here we are, still trying and waiting. Basically the doctor was hopeful but did not know the reason I infertile (anyone who hasn't had a child after a year of trying gets that lovely label). So my question to yall is have any of you had similar issues with conceiving? My whole family is like crazy fertile so this has been something I never thought would be an issue. My husband has been very supportive but I just feel like it is all my fault. I went 10 years misdiagnosed before I was correctly diagnosed and treated for lyme. During that time I became deathbed sick and took all kinds of treatments trying to get better. I'm worried it was something from back then that is causing issues now. It's like I'm back in the middle of my war with lyme and my body is once again failing me. I've been keeping this all from my family because my mom and mother-in-law would do nothing but talk about babies if I let them. My sister-in-law just got pregnant after trying for a week. So I'm over here pretending I'm not planing on ever having kids so that my dark cloud doesn't darken the happiness that she is having. I am truly excited to be an Aunt, and I'm already spoiling him like crazy. It's just so hard to stay positive. Any prayers or encouragement is welcome. Thanks for listening to my mini rant.

There are lots of children hoping to be adopted. Just something to consider.

BookWyrm,

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on being in remission from Lyme for FOUR YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS!!!! That is truly a heroic accomplishment. As to whether or not the Lyme disease or the treatment damaged anything and is preventing pregnancy, is there a way your doctor can check/test you? Are there any physical hindrances? Are your hormone and nutrient levels optimal? That sort of thing.

I'm a woman but never had or tried to have children, so I don't really know what all is involved, but those seem like plausible things to check out.

Last, but not least, you only mentioned Lyme and not coinfections. Were you treated for Bartonella? I ask specifically about bartonella because it is well documented, at least in the veterinary literature, that bartonella can cause infertility, miscarriage, still birth, and birth defects.

Hi just offering support to you, Don't blame your self. We cant control what these infections do or have done.

Keep taking good care of yourself and building your immune system.

I found this info: /www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/top-3-fertility-herbs/

Just something to check out.

Miracles can happen, keep up the hope and faith that you will conceive a child.

I was told I wouldn't be able to conceive easily due to ovarian issues when I was younger.

Without any medical intervention I had a son. There is hope.

Take care, Jo

Have you tried acupuncture? I was recently diagnosed with Lyme, however a number of years ago when I was trying to conceive I had unexplained infertility. I went years not being able to conceive and decided to try acupuncture from someone who did specialize in fertility. I went 3-4 times a month for six months and ended up getting pregnant and had a beautiful boy at the age of 44.

So anything is possible. I am considering going back for Lyme now.

When I got pregnant with our son...it was the first month that we tried. I had it all charted...etc...and my periods were like clock-work.
Our son was delivered at 32 weeks (water prematurely broke )

When he was about 3, we tried for a few years...and nothing. Gave up when I was about 37 (i know - too soon!) We chose not to go the fertility clinic route.

So what we tired:

- ovulation kits - so you know when you're more likely to get pregnant. Have you tried that?

- fallopian tubes checked. mine was done at the hospital..they flushed them to see if there was a blockage. There wasn't in my case.

- husband's sperm count was tested as well. (sometimes the issue is with the male partner)

No known reason. i wish now that we had tried to adopt...didn't really think of it until our son was older.

...and fertility clinic - that's also an option for you.

BookWyrm - four years of remission is wonderful news!

Just to add to Girlie's suggestions I found the book Taking Charge of your Fertility really helpful. It took me a while to get pregnant with my second and during that time I charted my temperature and I could see that I was likely conceiving but repeatedly miscarrying very early. It might give you some helpful insights if you could see when you're ovulating and what happens in the time afterwards.

Best wishes.

I'm only familiar with the following site in name, so I've not perused it. Perhaps you will find something helpful:

I second TCOYF (Taking Charge Of Your Fertility) book. Excellent book - a must read for all girls/women (in my very humble opinion). But I am wondering if you already have it?

I'd be suspicious of the MTHFR and how it relates to the infertility. I don't know much about it, but I do recall reading about that connection in multiple places. Are you treating the MTHFR ongoing while trying to get pregnant?

No, sorry - I don't have any other thoughts, but I'm truly sorry for your struggles with this! Wishing you the very best for you!

Just wanted to lend support. I am sorry for your struggles, for I know it’s hard on the heart. Don’t stop believing. I too believe in the fertility diet and consecutive acupuncture. Sending positive vibes your way.

I just want to say that, BookWyrm, your story could be my own except I'm not as far along on the healing path as you are. I truly hope everything works out for you.

Thanks everyone for the helpful tidbits and encouragement! To answer a few questions:

-Walkingbyfaith Thanks! Physically things look good, but we are doing more tests this summer. I did have bartonella so I'll research more into that aspect.

-Goshawk Thanks for the hope and like for herbs!

-HaleyBugs07 acupuncture is on my list to try, I'm just looking around for someone.

-Girlie I've been really good about charting everything. I went to a specialist that dealt with high risk pregnancy and was LLMD. He seems to think the lyme should not have affected anything from what he had seen in my file and like you he said there was no known reason. He did suggest some more tests to run and like I said to WBF we will get those done this summer. We are also talking about adoption and maybe a surrogate.

-Dude Abides Thanks for the link!

-1000Daises I have the book ordered! MTHFR is basically I don't process folic acid-which is important in pregnancy especially the beginning of it. Without it you can have a miscarriage, still birth, or defects. I take a daily pill that has the processed version of folic acid so my body can process the vitamins I need / any future baby would need from me. There are all kinds of other things folic acid plays a role in but those are the more baby related ones.

-missy_j78 I'm excited to hear that you are on the path of healing! Hopefully we both will have some good news to share soon!
