Hi all! Has anyone had perioral dermatitis with lyme? One of my early symptoms was a rash around my mouth/chin and eyelids... Once I started treatment it went away. I had it for probably 3-4 months. Just trying to connect all the dots and make sense of the last year of wierd symtpoms.

Thank you

Hi again, BrookieGirl. You keep bringing up symptoms I have completely forgotten about. Yes, I had the perioral dermatitis. Dermatologist gave me some sort of lotion to put on it. An antibiotic lotion, I think. It came back once or twice, but I have not had it for some time.

Hi there, I was just tested for lyme and found to have had a previous infection but was apparently "cured". I had had perioral dermatitis at least 4 times over the last 25 years and was treated with doxycycline the last time around (tetracycline and erythromycin prior to that). Doxy is one of the drugs of choice for lyme and the dosing is the same so that might have been my cure for a disease that I didn't know I had at that time (my GP at that time was unwilling to test for it because I didn't have the cardinal acute symptoms). I have wondered if there was a connection between the two but I don't have any proof as cultures are never done for perioral dermatitis. The other possibility is that one becomes more susceptible to other infections as a result of immune suppression secondary to lyme. This is educated speculation. My active infections are common co-infectors with lyme: rickettsiae and mould. If you haven't had tests done to rule out common co-infections, I recommend that.

Hi trazed, welcome to our community.

Are you by any chance Canadian?

Are you currently in treatment for your infections?
