Hi all,
I have suspicion that I may have shingles. I called Dr. Jemsek's office, I see his PA. She said it may be Shingles. I have a small rash on my left chest, near the bottom of the pectoral area. It itches, burns and is painful to the touch. It also hurts when I don't touch it. It's been like that for about 2 weeks. The rash has kind of scabbed over a bit, it looks like its white now. I also have had diarrhea for about 2 weeks. I'm on 4-5 different antibiotics so I am hoping that is the cause of my stomach upset. I supplement with probiotics. Anyone have any feedback whether this could be shingles? I believe I had chickenpox as a kid BTW.

I heard shingles can be very painful... Not sure what you can do for it other than pain meds like Gabepentin or Lyrica - until it heals.

Sorry, Dave - I've wondered about shingles myself - if we're more prone with our supposed immune suppression - gee - how to add insult to injury...right?

Hope you get relief from it soon.

I know I had chickenpox as a was the ONE I did have (no measles or mumps)

Yep. Sounds like shingles, including the upset stomach. My mother had that with hers. I've had it twice in the past year. Second time no blisters as I jumped on Valtrex as soon as I realized what it was.

Make sure you're not taking any l-arginine itself or any supplements or amino acids with that in it. I would also avoid bone broth, bee pollen, and other foods high in arginine.

Take an l-lysine supplement up to 3,000 mg daily divided in 3 doses.

Will the doctor prescribe Valtrex? It helps greatly if taken soon enough. Not sure if it works two weeks after onset. The doctor should know.

Lemon balm can help with the nerve pain. Lion's mane and Chinese senega root taken long term can repair nerve damage and post-herpetic nerve issues.

Diluted Bragg's apple cider vinegar and coconut oil applied after a shower helped the burning and itching for me.
