I have read Stephen Buhner's book and would like to make my own tick repellant.
I cannot find Rhododendron tomentosum or Ledum palustre essential oil for the life of me.
There are other Ledums out there: Ledum groenlandicum but I do not think that is the same thing.

Can anyone help?

Hihoosierhousewife - welcome!

I guess you tried google searching for these eo’s?

I currently use rose geranium in my tick spray. I can’t say if it’s effective because I don’t see ticks where I live. (Have only ever seen one )

I wasn’t able to find the Rohdedendron oil either but I did find the Alaskan Cypress on Etsy.

The CDC has some studies on Nootkatone which look quite promising - this is in the cypress that Buhner calls for.

I’m hoping the nootkatone is actually the key ingredient. And it smells better than the rose geranium for me at least smile

If you find the Ledum please let us know. There are people on Etsy selling the spray so it must be out there.

I emailed Mr. Buhner and here is his response:

"Rhododendron groenlandicum will work nearly as well"

I have not yet purchased and concocted the repellent (been busy ramping up on the core protocol herbs), but thought I'd put this out there.

I ran up against the same problem last week but found a shop on etsy that sells Buhner's formula:

They also sell his chronic fatigue tea and other herbs....

Oh that's wonderful - thanks so much for sharing this! I found ledum groenlandicum but looking for information online I could see that it had different chemical compounds in it and wasn't sure if it would be as effective.
