Predominantly on the left side.

Is this a flare up? I’ve been doing pretty well, in fact I got a bit lazy with my diet etc because of this and had 2 chocolate bars yesterday! Could this have caused a flare up? Or could it be a herx?

I also ate half a bag of goji berries yesterday the day before and read somewhere that they can cause GI upset??

Hate these guessing games!

Flares can happen even without something to instigate it. Prior to treatment my symptoms would flare each afternoon like clockwork

Are you currently treating? If so - it could also be an overload of toxins (herx)

Hello Szabo246. The simple answer is yes. Chocolate has sugar and caffeine in it, as well as milk (if it isn't dark chocolate). All of these things can weaken your body, hence causing a flare-up. Try to avoid all sugars, caffeine, dairy products, food allergies, food sensitivities (different than an allergy), inflammatory foods in general. Your body is most likely already inflamed, so you don't want to give it something else to make it more inflamed. It's all cumulative unfortunately, and will lead to worse symptoms, many times even if you only eat something once.

I suppose it's possible the chocolate could have caused a flare of inflammation, but I don't think it's probable. Just my opinion.

Hmmm... it’s so hard to tell. Maybe it’s just inflammation I would have got anyway or maybe it’s nerve pain. Who knows!!

This is somewhat mechanical in nature. Its possible that a herx or flare set it off. , but the result was mechanical nerve impingement..

Radiating to leg is the give away- a pinched nerve in the lower back which commonly radiates pain felt down to the leg and foot.

You might have just slept wrong to - all it takes when body is tightened up and sore from lyme.
Had initial lyme symptoms late 80's, then again and with bullseye early 90's. Ended ABX for Lyme in Jan 2016. Rebuilding / fine tuning / fixing muscles since then; member "10 Percenters Lyme Club". What an adventure this has been. Hashimotos adds to the enjoyment.

Thank you astroman.
Makes sense. Makes me feel a bit better about my lack of discipline!
