Everyone has candida in their bodies. The problem is when it gets out of hand and overgrows. You have good and bad bacteria in your body and the bad outweighs the good. There are also various types of candida (I found out). So no, food doesn't necessarily cause candida, but it allows it to weaken your immune system which in turn allows candida to run wild. Many things can cause an imbalance - poor diet, stress, trauma, etc. Candida is VERY hard to treat - almost as hard as Lyme itself. Your body is a fine balance. When your gut bacteria gets out of whack, it's a cascade effect and other things topple as well, it allows viruses to take hold and makes you vulnerable to illness. Healing starts in your gut.

I ended up taking a prescription anti-fungal called Sporonox that helped a great deal with my candida and other fungal infections. You likely have more than one.

Yes, a diet high in sugar (like you described) can definitely contribute to a yeast imbalance for sure!
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Still sick now despite being treated for years but doing better (not well yet).
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.
