I'm dealing with terrible TMJ for the past 8 months. I've heard botox works great fro TMJ and releases the muscles. I'm wondering if anyone with lyme has had botox before? I know it's not recommended but I need some pain relief.

I wouldn't do it. It's botulism. In healthy people it can work wonders. In people with compromised immune systems it could be a disaster. I'd look into a chiropracter who knows how to release the muscle inside your mouth. You could also look into dry needling or muscle release with needles filled with just a small amount of lidocane. The purpose is the same. The needle releases the tension in the muscle.

I've tried all those suggestions and many more. Nothing has offered any relief. Most things have actually made it worse. I just want to be able to eat and talk again. I've heard botox works wonders for TMJ. My lyme doctor said it would be fine to get but I wanted to double check and see if anyone else had experience with it.

My SIL had a retainer made for hers. She wore it at night.

I can't remember if it was a dentist or a chiropractor who suggested it and had it made for her.

Her jaw was always going out - she said it was very painful...hasn't happened since the retainer though.

I’ve never had Botox for tmj but on my upper lip a few times, never had any issue with that little bit.
