I’m starting to strongly suspect that there’s a link between a prior exposure to Fluoroquinolone and my predominant lyme symptoms - tendon issues and insomnia.

I feel like I’ve gone through babesia and bart treatment, perhaps I’m being optimistic and I know I’m not fully done yet but I’ve had the classic symptoms peak and subside. I feel like I’m ready to back off on my herbs and try switching to mostly the supportive Buhner herbs and yet I’m still dealing with my two original major symptoms as strong as ever. I know that’s not uncommon, the oldest take the longest to go.

I did discover that high doses of Gou Teng were causing me problems. And I’m not sure at this point about some others in the Buhner protocol. I’m feeling like there’s more to my picture and that this may be it.

I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences to share on dealing with floxing, things they found beneficial, herbs or supplements they had to avoid. Or any thoughts in general about changing their protocol and touch-points they found useful when reassessing things.

Thanks for any thoughts.

sandyfeet - You were on fluoroquinolones before for something prior to lyme?

And did you have the tendon issues during or soon after taking them?

I see in your sig line that you started treatment this past november?

That is a really short amount of time (5 months) to heal your chronic coinfections.

I believe I was administered Fluoroquinolone in hospital two years prior to contracting lyme. I’m having difficulty getting confirmation from the hospital on that but they were routine at that time. I started having mild insomnia then but it really became severe after lyme and co took hold. The tendon issues are post lyme but I think there’s more to the picture with these two symptoms and that the lyme exploited this as a prior weakness.

Yeah, it’s short I know so perhaps I should just stay the course. It’s been 10 months of Lyme treatment, and the bart and babesia I ramped up quickly over October so they’ve only been 6 months at full dose. I suspect that I still need at least 3-4 more months on crypto and houttynia to be sure they’re cleared but so much of that has subsided for me with those symptoms. It was a real bell curve of symptom development and resolution.

The insomnia resolved one month into treating bart and babesia and then started to unravel again after two months. I’ve been suspecting various herbs in my protocol for quite a while but juggling changes has only revealed one definite culprit there.

One part of me feels that I need to just keep on with the current treatment. But there’s been a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that either there’s a piece of the puzzle that I’m missing, (GABA and collagen issues) or that I’ve reached a saturation point for some of the herbs and it’s time to lower doses.

Or maybe I’m grasping at straws lol.

yeah so i took about 3 months of floroquinolones in hi dose (1000mg levo or 1500mg cipro) and have had absolutely no tendon problems, not during nor 3 years after treatment....

i've been on abx for 3 years and haven't cleared all the infections out so yes it can take quite a while, way longer than most think to clear out the little b*stards.

There is a member who has posted her experience with being floxed.

Her name is Summer or Summer16 -can’t remember - maybe I’ll be able to find one of her posts later.

Thanks Girlie, I’ve read her posts and searched the archives I was wondering if there was anything new.

As I understand it so far a combination of a mthfr gene and FQ toxicity can impair collagen production and disrupt GABA. So I’m thinking that combined with Lyme my body can’t keep up with the tendon repair. Ive mostly been conservative on collagen support and I’m looking into what more I can do.

Thanks mpost and rickky1. I’m definitely overly optimistic about how quickly things might resolve but I’m also following my gut that there’s another part of the picture I must be missing at this point.
