Is it true that only the IV version of the vancomycin has any potential use in lyme treatment?

My son has bartonella, lyme and babesia and he was taking bactrium for the bart which he was allergic to (developed a face spotty red rash). The doc said that vancomycin (oral) could be a substitute that would also hedge against developing c. Diff in the gut due to the long term abx.

However vancomycin is not absorbed so how does it help treat bart outside of the gut?

I've only seen/heard vanco used for lyme/bart when in IV form.

I also read that it's poorly absorbed orally.

Is this a Lyme Literate Dr. who has prescribed it?

vancomycin oral is used to treat cdiff, since cdiff is an infection that mainly affects the gut. so oral vanco is a very good option.

vancomycin kills cdiff.

however as a systemic antibiotic, vanco given orally is a very poor option. actually the only approved use of oral vanco is for cdiff colitis.

Not for my 3 year old... Bactrim and cipro were two things that came up and because he had an allergic reaction to Bactrim and because he had c diff in the past the doc said we could try vanco because it would cover both bartonella and c diff...

Cipro - not sure I’d want my three year old taking that.

I’d ask him about Rifampin

Maybe he has had success with the oral vanco.
