So I've been diagnosed now for abou 4 months & I've kept a very strict diet since day 1. Well this morning I gave in because I was going fishing & everybody was eating out so I didn't have much or a choice. I had McDonald's breakfast & a coke.

I was expecting the fatigue & brain fog to get much worse after my meal but the complete opposite happened.

I felt like I was much sharper mentally & even some energy. I figured it was where my tolerance for sugar was down where I have been on a strict diet and have not had that amount in a while. I figured I was gonna start feeling bad after a few hours but never did.

I know the sugar is bad so I'm not changing my diet any way but I just don't understand why I felt so much more mentally sharp afterwards.

Anything helps! Thank you all

Ditto here. However, when I keep doing it, I eventually get worse inflammation and retreat to a clean diet. I don't do well with strict diets.

Does the sugar craving ever go away or is that just a Lyme symptom?

I still crave sugar every single day. Even after 4 months of eating clean.

To be fair, just about everything in our body feeds on sugar in one way or another. There are ways to eat healthily without completing cutting things out of your diet. Now that you've found that you've found you don't react poorly to a little sugar, it's probably best that you don't go and eat a whole bunch of sugar to test it. That being said, it's probably alright to have a little bit every now and then if it doesn't make you feel worse.

My LLMD and I were just talking about diet the other day, and since in my case I haven't noticed any difference in how I feel regardless of what I do or do not eat, we agreed that while eating a more healthy diet in general is a good thing for me I shouldn't worry too much about avoiding certain things 100%.

Just my two cents.

This is what Dr B says in his guidelines:

NOT ALLOWED:
No sugars at all, and no fructose or corn syrup

ALLOWED (if tolerated):
Stevia (safest), honey, and Splenda,
Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal) may not be tolerated by some patients Saccharin products are not recommended

I think we all find our own path. Some can't tolerate sugar and some can. It all depends on your body and we know not 2 of us here are identical.

I drank wine while I treated. Not silly drunk wine drinking, but yes, a glass with dinner here and there. Wine is a lot of sugar. But, I did not eat a doughnut, cake, pie, cookie, candy or any other sugary things. I could not tolerate ice cream. I did it once and got sick. Pizza made me sick (hence my screen name).

So it will be by trial and error to find what you can tolerate and what you cannot. We all are our own guinea pigs.
