So after 8.5 months of antibiotics my LLMD decided to switch me to herbs for 3-4 months to see if my "immune system is up to it" or not.

I have ordered a whooping list of herbs again, including andrographis, monolaurin, nasturtium and all sorts of other weird stuff. Now besides that i want to start take oregano oil. I have a NOW foods oregano oil capsules bottle with 55% carvacrol.
/iherb.com/pr/Now-Foods-Oregano-Oil-90-Softgels/731

my question is how much should i take per day ? i started with 3 softgels per day. on empty stomach. They are a bit hard on the gut, i can sometimes feel the pills burning me on the inside after ~ 1 hour after taking them. But it's manageable for the moment.

Are you taking larger amounts ? with food ? have u seen any reaction ? So far i have had none, taking this for 2 days already... besides the small burn sensation which is normal since oregano is very very hard on the gut.

My only remaining symptom so far is burning eyes. My shin bone pain has disappeared as soon as i stopped the rifampin. I treat the burning eyes with antialergic drops, massage. I also started taking levocetirizine (5mg/day) for allergy and MCAS. It is a H1 blocker and helps calm down mast cells. I also take 1-1.5 gr of vitamin C per day, divided in 3 doses, Vitamin C also calms down mast cells.

I know stephania is good for eye but im having cold feet about putting stuff in my eye that is not very well purified and says on the label "for ocular use". Because i do not want to go blind that's why ;)

anyway, my main question was about oregano oil capsules and how much to take. I want to prevent a relapse thats all, and i am taking a lot of herbs too. Also taking loads of probiotics since i know it can kill your gut bacteria.

You only take one a day. I tried it for 3 months but the burning got worse. For me it wasn't something I could stay with. It does kill lyme but I read yesterday that it is thought to not be penetrating enough these days and there are less LLND making use of it. Maybe it is something you dont really need given that you have done so much to drive the infection down anyway.
Congratulations you have done well to get where you are now.
.
I always though I would be doing everything to build up the immune system medical mushrooms and the like, if I got where you are but you seem very well informed so you are probably doing that.
All the best going forward.

I alternate oregano and cinnamon every other day. You should eat something right after you take either one to ease the burn. Sometimes cinnamon seems stronger than oregano to me.

I've tried the Gaia brand - but have only taken one capsule a day (no burning) and no noticeable effect. However Biocidin (liposomal) does cause some kind of reaction. It contains oregano oil, tea tree and other oils/herbs. I really think the liposomal is what is needed for herbs and oils.

Does Liposomal Oil of Oregano require a prescription, or can you just contact the compounding pharmacy to order it. i want to try it

I use zane hellas from amazon. 86% carvacrol=108mg. I only take 1 every other day but I think you can use everyday for a good while, maybe 6 weeks or more? I alternate days so I don't have to stop and the cinnamon is a good one to alternate it with. Neither one burns my stomach too badly.

Also, I'm not sure I buy the fact that oregano doesn't penetrate the body. Buhner is the only source Ive see for this perspective and I would think that a fat/oil would penetrate the body better than dry herbs (which I take as well) but that's just my opinion.

When I take coconut oil I can tell it's coming out of my pores because it's moisturizing my skin as well killing bugs. I guess coconut gets in the blood stream/brain easier because MCTs are processed by the liver and make it to the blood stream more quickly so it might not be a good comparison.

I've been taking Designs for Health Oregano oil capsules per my doc. I def got a response, especially when I first started. I take 2 capsules a day, without food (not sure it matters). I could prob take more, but I take a lot of other stuff too so I figure that amount is ok for me. I've mentioned this in other threads but I also started some essential oil combos that have a variety of oils, including oregano. That stuff is strong. I can't pinpoint which particular oil is making me herx so much, but I think the strength (concentration) plus the combo of all of them together might have synergistic effects. Anyways, it's an experiment like always.

I hope the oil of oregano will prove helpful for you!

How do you take your coconut oil? What kind? How much? Coconut oil helps me but I just cook my eggs with it.
Much of what u take also works for me, but some I have never tried. Would you let us know what you have taken that worked, or didnt work..and what exactly it was like brand etc. Thank!

Oregano oil is very strong. Many lymies will have parasites and this should kill those parasites, plus other gut issues. You can be sure its real by taking real oregano...the fresh herb from the store for $1. Just blend it and strain if necessary.
When I first started it I herxed. I took one drop a day of the herb (a liquid form from a vitamin shop). Then I did two drops, then the next day three. My hands would go numb and I felt shaky but only for the first three days so thats a herx. Before taking it I was disabled and not able to walk almost at all. So yes I recommend it whole heartily 100%, in super small dosses but daily so u kill the whole life cycle. Dont stop though and dont take too much and burn a hole in your gut.

sierraDon,

Liposomal OoO that I get requires a script. I get it from Hopkington Drug. Wth cold pack shipping it's pricey at around $110 per mo. But I pulse it along with my 2 week ON, 3 week OFF ABX regimen.

Lemonlyme, my protocol has changed a bit but I will try to tell you what I do. I tried antibiotics for less than 5 weeks with no success. I saw the tick and had it tested which came back negative. I didn't believe my dr when he told me I was fine and didn't have lyme, (though I tested negative twice for everything). The symptoms all lined up. I was taking a week of abx for what might have been a secondary infection when I tried colloidal silver, which helped. Then I started researching the most effect natural cures and here's what I use.

Organic coconut oil-1,000mgs-brand is Emerald
Organic ceylon cinnamon-600mgs-brand Superfood Harvest
Organic apple cider vinegar-750mgs-brand Purely Beneficial
Oregano oil-500mgs some of which is olive oil-brand Zane Hellas
Olive leaf-400mgs-brand Sprouts store brand
Kelp-600mgs-brand Nature's Way (I might switch to non-kelp iodine due to possible toxins from ocean)
trans resveritrol (Japanese knottweed)-250mgs-brand Whole Foods store brand (I might not continue this)

Used occasionally
colloidal silver-500ppm-silver wing brand
borax-pinch every 2 or 3 days (this is controversial but has helped me a great deal)
Niacin-still building up dosage-don't get "no flush" or "slow release"
MSM-haven't added this yet but it looks promising for intracellular implications

Schedule

breakfast Coconut-Cinnamon or oregano

lunch Coconut-kelp

dinner Coconut-Apple cider vinegar pill

bedtime coconut-oive leaf or Japanese knotweed or another cinnamon

I'm still tweaking this but I'm happy with the results. I pretty much just have slight twitches left at this point although the niacin makes me herx with a neck ache.

You can make your own liposomal essential oils if you are up for doing the work, it's a little time consuming but not especially difficult. Here's an overview of the process, I can describe more if you want. Oregano is very strong and inflammed my gut over time, I switched to liposomal preparations and didn't have the same irritation.
