Hi all. I was diagnosed with Lyme and bartonella early last fall. Since then I have been in treatment with an LLMD. I was on abx for about 3 months but they severely messed up my stomach, so now I am taking antimicrobials, nystatin, many different probiotics, and a couple other supplements. I would say I’m doing relatively well for the circumstances, but my symptoms still include: feeling hot/cold and feverish often, muscle twitching, anxiety, headaches, and the most frustrating one currently: gastrointestinal issues. I am on a no dairy, wheat/gluten, and extremely minimal sugar (only eat berries every few days) diet and have been for about 5 months now, yet I am still experiencing nausea often and extreme bloating and gas on the daily that has become embarrassing.. My LLMD suggested that maybe it was still yeast, but I’m not sure how else I can change my diet to heal yeast overgrowth. I have also noticed that the bloating and gas occcurs after I take the probiotics and eat dinner. It does not usually happen earlier in the day. So I was wondering if anyone else has has a similar issue and know of anything that worked for them? Do I need a more restrictice on my diet? Could it just be the probiotics causing the bloating and gas? Anything helps. Thanks!

Edit:

I also have been filling up very quickly, and not being able to finish meals. I have also lost a fair amount of weight recently which is a little concerning to me.

Andy, I am not a medical doctor at all. Just wanted to make that clear. I had horrible intestinal problems when I got lyme and I only did antibiotics for about 28 days. Horrible gas pains. Probiotics did not work for me and, like you, I thought they were making me worse.

I did bone broth. Organic turkey bone broth. I think Walmart online is the least expensive that I got. Pacific brand. I drank a couple of cups a day and in 2 days I was so much better.

I have no idea if this will work for you, but hey, it can't hurt you.

Good luck. Gas pain can be so horrible.

Start keeping a journal and document what foods you ate every time you have a bad reaction. Eventually you will see a pattern. You can have food allergies to healthy foods.

I would also look into intermittent fasting and what time of the day you are eating. Look into your food portions and your mixtures of carbs, fats and proteins. Lyme really made me look at the way I was living and my diet/eating habits. I have always been an athlete and in good shape but looking back at it I always had stomach/gastrointestinal issues caused by a typical crap American diet. I never gave these issues the attention they deserved until I got really sick with Lyme.

I had the same issues you are having even with fairly successful treatment. Once I incorporated intermittent fasting and NOT feeling like I had to eat three big meals a day I started feeling better. Looking back at humans evolution the idea we have to eat three big meals a day is a fairly recent idea. Our ancestors certainly didn't eat this way.

Obviously, different strokes for different folks. I can't guarantee anything is going to work for you. It's just something to consider.

I have the same issue. I take the bone broth and don't see much of a difference. I will admit that my diet is not the best but I've tried so many different thing to combat candida, if that is the cause, and the symptoms still continue. I unfortunately dont have an answer but you are not alone. I think lots
of people with lyme have this issue.

Elementary water with pure lemon juice concentrate the one at the market that is in the yellow lemon looking thing or the supersized in same brand. First time use 20 drops then work up to 100 but also buy ph test strips. Sold everywhere, Really you may herx first time or two if you got candida but it will kill it. Also I use dill pickle juice for muscle twitches and cramps more for cramps but helps twitching. Keep you ph at 7.35 and you will feel better but not healed. Do it about 2 hrs after your meds. Let me know I just found out this works this week. Dr today explained the test strips and the ph bacteria had alkaline body and some will die on own. Immune system will be stronger. Candida the lemon water kills slowly and I helped it with lauricidin pellets 5 pellets 2 time daily

Does the gas / bloating subside if you omit the ingestion of probiotics for a couple of days ?
I think by introducing probiotics into a messed up intestinal flora this can cause quite a bit of bloating.

Also I think bartonella can cause loose stools but don't quote me on that one.

Thank you all for the responses! They are very helpful. I am curious if anyone has tried eliminating all grains from their diet as well? I have still been eating brown rice and some other gluten free grains and I am wondering if that could be contributing to the yeast. I tried eliminating them today and it seemed to help a little. I am afraid to completely go off the probiotics because I am on so many antimicrobials and I'm afraid my stomach will get even worse if I stop them, but I suppose that is an option. I will give the bone broth a try and see if that helps too. Has anyone tried apple cider vinegar to combat the yeast and had any success? I was thinking about trying that too for a few days.
