Hi UCSDMom - That's great news - your DD is doing so well and is graduating!!!
I didn't know that Rifampin treats RMF but it will also target her Bartonella infection. (btw foot pain is classic Bartonella...and I didn't know it was a RMF symptom)
We actually don't 'hear' much on this forum about RMF....not sure why.
Is there a plan for Babesia treatment after the RMF/Bart treatment is done? The Clindamycin does hit Babesia some...but not sure if it's all that is needed. Hopefully it is. Sounds like she's already doing well symptom-wise.
That is wonderful that she has had so much support from her professors - that's not something we see often...unfortunately.
You must be very proud of her.
Thank you, Girlie - I am incredibly proud of her!! For a 21 year old who "should" be out having fun, dating, planning her future - she has remained amazingly centered through most of this. She is on an SSRI (Lexapro) and we recently added Wellbutrin, which boosted her energy and motivation quite a bit. But overall, the positive coping is her doing, and I am so impressed by her.
I honestly don't know about
the RMSF - our doc seemed convinced - but when I did more Googling, it doesn't really match up. Nevermind: since she did test positive for Bart, I think the current regiment is most likely what she needs. As for the Babesia - he had prescribed mepron, and we filled the prescript
ion, but got cold feet when we saw all of the potential side effects! Decided to hold off until she's finished school (although I think the rifampin/clindamycin is possibly having just as bad of a reaction as mepron might have). But... her brain fog seems quite a bit improved... so doc isn't too sure about
her needing babesia treatment. We will see how she responds to the rifampin/clindamycin.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
