Looking for an LLMD in Portland ME.

Have lyme symptoms for second time - first time was in 2016 and symptoms resolved with treatment. I have had a western blot from Quest Diagnostics in MA which shows reactive on the 41 band but no other bands.

I realize it is thought the 41 band may react with dental spirochetes, relapsing fever, leptospirosis and a few other things. However, I have not symptoms related to any of those conditions. My family Dr wants me to wait a few weeks and see if my symptoms resolve. I know my body and mind well and can feel that something is not right. I have brain fog, daily headaches and neck aches, pain in my joints and muscles, teeth ache and jaw aches, extreme fatigue particularly in early afternoon and evening. These are all the same symptoms I had in 2016 when my western blot showed reactive in multiple bands.

Testing again may not be valid as we can continue to show positive bands years after an infection has been treated.. so not sure you can count the band 41

But the symptoms indicate either a relapse or new infection either which warrants treatment.

Cant you go to your previous LLMD ?

My first go around with Lyme was with the same family Dr. He treated me last time because I had several bands that were reactive.

I had another western blot a few months after I was treated in 2016 and all the bands came back as non reactive, including the 41 band. In other words, I tested reactive, was treated and tested non reactive, and am now testing reactive again in band 41 with symptoms.

I have to admit, I do not have much faith in the tests. I have much more faith in how I feel. I believe my family Dr. is of the opinion if the test is not positive you do not have lyme. I am not well enough informed to know if this is true, but it seems like a very rigid approach.

The negative band after treatment, followed by a positive one now still may not mean anything re: new infection . It is dependent on your immune function to recognize and put out the antibodies.

But, your return of symptoms certainly does.

good you're seeking a LLMD. Best to treat it sooner than later.
