I’ve heard of skin issues being an issue when dealing with TBI, but I’ve not experienced anything beyond very minor symptoms until now; I’ve developed what I think is seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and one eyebrow: patchy scales, flaking, irritated and inflamed.

Apparently, it’s owed to a fungus that feeds off sebum, enjoying other fats as well. Thus, I’m wondering if my high fat diet plays a part, but I’ve been eating this way for quite some time (>1 year). Stress, disrupted sleep schedules, gut imbalance finally affecting the surface flora, etc. Many theories.

Though, it’s strange, how some symptoms can cycle. You’ll have one thing for days, weeks, months, only for them to disappear, while others remain relatively constant. I don’t know if this has been anyone else’s experience. I believe so. But, at least for me, it has been, and it’s pretty interesting. Concentrations of fungus, bacteria, or whatever moving around the body, affecting different parts in their own way.

Anyway, yeah, I’m considering shaving my head for awhile. I’m self-conscious about the flakes, and I hate the way my hair feels when I use products designed to combat it. I’ve done a loose “No Poo” approach to hair washing, using only natural shampoo bars for the past couple years, and my hair has always felt so soft and healthy... no expensive conditioners or treatments, just my body’s natural oils conditioning the hair. Shampoo makes it feel dry and lifeless.

Bleh!

I guess I was just wondering if anyone else had issues with SD or other skin stuffs. I’ll try to come back around tomorrow. smile

I have seb derm, yes. Itchy flaky scalp and red spots over my face, when its bad. I thought it was a bacterial infection, since it seemed to get better when i took antibiotics initially. But that could be the inflammatory effect, I guess.

In any case it seems to have come back again now, despite being on roxythromycin / doxy. It's fungal is it? Jeez, another thing to have to worry about / treat...

I have had flaky skin and itchy ears for almost three years now and it drives me mad - it makes me very self conscious as it looks awful besides the fact it is sometimes really sore and if I get any water in my ears when washing my hair they get really sore and very inflamed.
Doctor says it otitis externa and dentist says it is from TMJ and my jaw.
I now have flaky skin on one of my eyelids that is itchy and getting swollen.

Add to that an abscess since having a filling done recently !

I am going to get some houtt and go back on my bart herbs - I have taken a break for a few weeks and now while I take flagyl for the abscess as don't want to take the tinctures with that as they have alcohol in them.

Sometimes the skin problems 'slightly heal' on the herbs but it still never goes away completely.

Many posts on this here in the past.

1)Its usually candida/yeast/fungle. Eat less sugar/carbs. They like that more than fat.

2)Can be psoriasis / autoimmune too.

In helping determine; in my past I used Rx topical Keteoconazol for 1, Topical steroid cream for #2.

These are stronger than natural oils for these conditions, but I used a variety of those too.

"dandruff" is usually one or both the above too. Nizarol shampoo has keto in it.

Disclaimer: I have no idea I am just guessing here, but this worked for me. I went from bad skin to near perfect.

I think they are blood parasites leaving the skin to lay their eggs. Parasites can be loaded with mold sores. What you are see, the two-three week cycle, is the life cycle of the parasite.
You'll need to go on an antiparasite protocol and since the medications cannot go outside of the skin(relatively), you'll need to take daily epsom salt baths, or showers like I do. That is, take a bucket of hot water with 1cup of epsom salt, and cover your body head to toe. It has to be completely covered. For whatever reason, when I tell people this, they do not cover their body head to toe. Not a single person yet. I think they can move around to the skin, and obviously they are going to go to a spot where there is no epsom salt and dive back in or find a wound. You must do the epsom salt for a minimum of 10 days to stop the life cycle, with your antiparasite protcol. Also all bedsheets, pillow cases, carpets, towells etc need to be addressed. Put 1cup epsom salt in the washing machine for all your cloths. It is also a really fabric softern. You can buy epsom salt in a 50lb bag for under $20.
The antiparasite protocol is covered everywhere else, basically they are prescription drugs. I don't think the herbs are strong enough(except perhaps cloves). If your doctor refuses to give you some, make sure you get in writing that they do no think you have a parasite. If they can tell you something, then they can give it to you in writing -- otherwise it is a lie.

I used to have dandruff stuff in the outer third of my eyebrows and an area at my hairline near my temples. Never had it on my head. Also had it at the base of my eyelashes. Haven't had it since leaving my moldy house and workplace.

I've had an all-over-body itching burning dark red rash for a month now. Tried Claritin, Zinc Oxide, Aloe Vera. Seeing dermatologist Monday.

I've had a few minor skin issues. All have been related to yeast. Although I don't have any on my scalp, why don't you try putting Lamisil (anti-fungal cream) on a portion of your scalp and see if it helps?

My wife also suffers from flaky patchy scales in areas where skin folds and has had great success with anti-fungal creams.

That’s funny, astroman; I’ve been on the most limited of ketogenic diets for the past year and a half. I live off of select meats, green vegetables, and oils. My carb intake is rarely more than 50g/day. I actually ate myself into a corner, going keto without realizing it, as related to MCS and fungal concerns.

If only the “starving it out” approach worked entirely, without the aide of probiotics, antifungals, etc. All of which I’ve tried in various manners.

I’ve actually heard it’s fond of fatty acids, as well? The strain of fungus thought to be responsible for Seb Derm, that is. Would you happen to know anything about that, guys? Like, I’ve been told it’s bad to use certain oils as moisturizers and other skin or beauty products in general, as they could have things that will feed it. There’s no safe space, it’d seem.

I agree in regard to the immune aspect. Naturally, there’s the years of Lyme and associated, but I’ve also been dealing with a stressful school and work schedule, which I’m gonna need to be changing.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. It’s trash, the things we deal with. People often comment on how intenal TBI can be. I look normal to the world, right? Then, you get things like this. If I can’t have my good health, at least let me look pretty, I say! But, I also realize Seb Derm, Psoriasis, and the like can be more “normal” ailments that can affect many, not just us. Maybe I’d have gotten it anyway?

Anyway... mwah!

edit: Astroman, I haven’t had a bread-like product in about four years, I’d say. The last piece of fruit I’ve had that wasn’t an avocado, which I also react to now, was an apple in like 2015. As much as I miss something like pizza, burritos, or ice cream, I’d be so happy just to eat brown rice, a sweet potato, or squash on a frequent cycle. Just wanted to vent! On one hand, you could say I haven’t been working hard enough, on the other I’d say it’s been very unresponsive to systemic antifungals, naturals, and the probiotics I’ve tried.

"If I can’t have my good health, at least let me look pretty, I say!"

I love your good sense of humour NotQuiteAntonio. We have to find our consolations wherever we may.

I just wanted to add that I had Psoriasis come up for the first time ever in my life during the last two years before I realized I had lyme. It disappeared shortly after I started treatment. Who knows, so many of the complications of TBI fall under the category of 'normal life stuff' that it's hard to say sometimes.

I also had to say I love the no-poo options I make my own ACV from the leftovers from all of my kids apples and it is wonderful for hair. smile

My eldest had terrible eczema for years which would get better every summer. I've speculated it was vitamin D related. It spontaneously resolved this year. So maybe going hair free and getting some sunshine and air might help too.

While I was dealing with Psoriasis I made up a soap with neem oil - some people claim it is also beneficial for Seb Derm. I'd do some reading on that though as some people report adverse reactions to neem as well (headaches etc). Black soap is also is also another possibility.

Just rambling. Good luck finding an answer and I hope you look fabulous whatever you do with that hair!

I used to have a really bad case of dandruff, I am not sure if I could call this dermatitis, my scalp was very very dry - I think dermatitis can be oily as well. it was huge flakes, itching (my face was also itchy), and sores. After a few months, my hair quality changed, and then finally my hair started falling out, massively. I'd get strange fungus like sores on my torso, and reading about this was terrified of morgellons. I tried all the shampoos you can think of, none of them helped. I also thought this could be toxins, vitamin D deficiency or zinc deficiency - but nothing changed with supplementing.

Coconut oil was the one think that worked, if I'd have coconut oil on my scalp all the time while at home, I could actually wash my hair and be dandruff free for a couple of hours when going somewhere. Discovering this was a huge relief for me.

Then, when I incorporated kelp into my diet things finally improved. This was due to iodine content of it, my dandruff has cleared and my hair stopped falling out. I also recently bought Lugol's iodine, but I don't take it orally, i put it on my skin and let it absorb. Too much iodine is dangerous, and it can also make you herx badly. However, I was clearly severly defficient. Oddly enough, blood work for thyroid came back normal twice. I did ultrasound scan as well.

I really hope this helps, I know how big of a problem this can be.
