Hello all!

I’m at the end of a very difficult week. On Wednesday I was advised by my family doctor to go directly to the nearest ER after I described my symptoms over the phone. I woke up after a nap on Tuesday afternoon, and felt intense pain at my Foramen magnum (base of the skull) and down to both shoulders and shoulder blades, plus throughout the length of the cervical spine and upper thoracic spine. They did a CT on me and the doctor said it was a tension headache. Then gave me tramadol that doesn’t work. I’m still in intense pain, and unfortunately can’t bring the scan with me to my appointment with my new LLMD (who wants to see it) next Tuesday.

When I have tension headaches, they’re always at the side of each temple. Can this actually be a long term tension headache in an area I’ve never had one, or could it be a Chiari Malformation?

Hoping that those with Chiari Malformation chime in. Thank you

Glad to hear that it wasn't something serious. I suffer from something similar but it does not extend all the way down like yours. Just to the lowest point where the shoulder blades align with the spine.

As far as I can tell, Bartonella is causing this to me. I say this because it gets better when I cycle a Tetracycline (Mino, Doxy) or when I take herbs that target Bartonella. It doesn't go away 100% but enough where I can ignore it.

As for the headaches at each side of the temple; I have those too but not as often, maybe once or twice a week. I can usually relieve them by massaging the back of my neck and the nerves/muscles that go from the neck to the center of the shoulder blades.

Something that has helped me a bit is a tennis ball. I roll it between a wall/door and my back. It relieves tension back there and feels so good. Just don't over do it. I've over done it a few times and get sore for a few days afterwards.

Actually it is serious if you go back and read what I typed. This pain is intense and it doesn’t go away. I rarely get any headaches at all anymore. I had severe migraines as a child.
