Well as a woman in her late 20s the baby fever has been hitting me hard for several years. After 10ish years of being misdiagnosed I was finally diagnosed with Lyme and Co and after a few years was able to get into remission with abx and herbs. 6 months later I got married and this month will be our 4 year anniversary. While I was a little leery about trying for a baby my OBGYN and LLMD both told me I shouldn't have any problems as long as I took some precautions (like taking abx/herbs), but that it would be a high risk pregnancy. Found out during this time I don't process folic acid but that was easily remedied by taking a pill once daily. OBGYN sent me to high risk pregnancy doctor that supposedly was also a LLMD since I had been trying for two years with no luck (the rest of my family is fertile myrtle so this was disheartening) and he also said he couldn't see any issues from the lyme, and that I might be like his own wife-no real reason for not getting pregnant but it just never happens- and that I might want to look into IVF.

BUT now I have relapsed.....and my fears are back in full swing. I caught it early since I know what to look for/already had a plan in place with my LLMD, and I hope to return to being in remission a lot quicker than last time. However, I don't know if I want to risk passing this on to any possible future kid. Even with taking all the precautions I know there is still that slim chance it could happen.

Has anyone on here had a kid during or post lyme? How did things go? What all precautions did you take?

I have not had a kid post lyme....but wanted to post anyway. I'm sorry you've relapsed - but you're taking action now..and hopefully you can recover quickly.

It's good that you are consulting with your LLMD about a possible pregnancy and what precautions to take.
One thing I've read is to have the newborn's cord tested after the birth.

Thanks Girlie- I have heard about getting the cord tested. My LLMD has had 3 cords test positive this last year, but I'm not really sure on if the moms had been taking abx during pregnancy or if so-for how long. So it might be if they had been from the very beginning they would be fine. I just know how hard it is on us adults to deal with and would hate for a baby who doesn't know why they feel bad/and is unable to say what symptoms to have to deal with it.

Hi BookWyrm,

Just offering support, and would you be able to find out the outcomes on the children last year that had cords test positive in a general manner(not invading medical privacy) from your llmd?

Questions to ask llmd or pregnancy specialist that may help in your decision making about having a child or not.

Such as have these babies/toddlers now had any issues?

What exact precautions can be taken?

What medical intervention/protocols would be used if your child was to test positive?

Is there any data on the length of time for recovery in infants that Lyme and co has been passed to?(Assuming its treated right away)

Is the high risk specialist knowledgeable and understanding of Lyme and co?

Does the specialist keep updated on Lyme and co , or are they wiling to consult with the best llmd's out there for this possible pregnancy and child.

I understand this will be hard.

So remember, after gathering all your information, after considering not only this moment in time,

but what the future could hold , either the good or the bad, the what ifs and the what not's, the should we risk it or not's...

then take a step back from everything and pause for a while, simply wait and then trust your own

conclusions about it all, then you will be able to make your decision.

I wish you hope most of all...and the best of healing.
