When I first read about the issue, my first thought was the same as acarined. But, I figured there had to be more to the matter, or you would have just logged into the website.
Were you using an e-mail client like Outlook to download your Gmail, via POP3/IMAP? This is what I do. But, I leave a copy of my e-mails on the Gmail server, as a safety net.
However, that still doesn't makes sense how updating your OS would have nuked your e-mails.
If you don't want to get into a lengthy discussion about it, I'll certainly understand. But, my curiosity got the best of me, so I thought I would ask. Then again, I know what curiosity did to the cat...
I do have an Outlook mail program for my personal (non forum) emails but I don’t use that to download my gmail.
The Apple “agent “ said if I had used the App that it wouldn’t have happened.
Instead I go to a browser - ie Safari and type in google mail and the mail account comes up.
It’s probably a screwy way to do things but it worked... well... until it didn’t.
Part of the problem I think was switching over to Apple products (IMac) from a PC a few years ago but trying to run it like a PC.
The agent said if I had used the App - that there would be a copy of the emails on the server.
They insist it wasn’t the update that lost my emails. (Even tho they were gone right after the update)
Just a coincidence I guess.
I may not be using the correct “language” to explain things.
Apparently the google “agent” offering to bring them back for a fee was NOT a google employee - as you can not get a google employee on the phone - it’s all done online.
(According to the Apple rep)
He’s probably accessing my iMac right now ... lol.
I’m over it ... good thing I don’t have high blood pressure issues...
