I did have a upper endo back then too...........since acid was hitting my teeth for a month while sleeping. I would wake up gasping for air too, literally drowning in acid. No Barrets was found then either but they warned me about it.
The guy Dr was a d/ck. Would not hear me or anything about my "redicuolous alternative medicine witchcraft theories". He could not handle a patient with a smarter problem solving brain of their own. Typical stubborn ego issues so common in Drs and science PHD's (I work in science and properly deal with some of these morons on a daily basis).
I went back to the same clinic twice, once for sibo test, and liver testing but to a different Dr and nurse practitioner (like a Dr in the US). They both saw my gerd history and asked about it. I told them my whole plan of attack that worked (more than just D-Limonene. Both congratulate me and said they're are hearing more positive alternative solutions from patients but they cant suggest them in a "conventional" practice.
Astro - I hear you on your frustration with the mainstream doctors. Trust me - I'm right there with you. I haven't been frustrated lately because I rarely see the mainstream docs any more. I mean - they are a last resort because they quite frankly fail to help us most of the time. So, if I can figure it out on my own, that's what I do. Not because I want to - but BECAUSE I HAVE TO because they don't usually help us!
But my most recent experience was when I was having that terrible kidney pain and felt sick from it (couple years back). I went to a couple different doctors at my clinic. My labs looked "normal", so I was pretty quickly disregarded. One even said I was confusing it with back pain. Turns out that I "diagnosed" myself with chronic systemic yeast infection, and sure enough, when I went back in for that and pushed to get tested for that, I was positive with an atypical strain. My GP (who I actually respect a lot) said that the mainstream meds were too toxic/harmful and told me to try alternatives. I self-treated, and guess what? My kidney pain/sickness went away when I knocked back the yeast. NONE of those doctors could figure it out. None of them. What a waste of time and money.
Having said all that, I see a functional medicine MD doctor who is quite the "outside the box" type of person. I respect him immensely. He truly has been a huge factor in helping my family - especially Kid#1 get well. He once said something that I will always remember. It was something like this: "I believe that something is wrong with your child. Sometimes, we just aren't smart enough to figure it out." Usually, doctors will dismiss the patient, say it is in their head, throws meds to treat the symptoms, etc. But this doctor was HONEST.
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Still sick now despite being treated for years but doing better (not well yet).
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.
