The more posts I read on here, the more I feel inclined to stay away from Bruhner's protocol.
It seems to be so hit and miss and all I ever read are horror stories regarding herxing with little or no improvement.
I'm not even slightly convinced that it works.
It's definitely a very personal decision which approach to take with lyme and co. I ended up following Buhner because I had a friend who recovered from Lyme and what I read made sense to me. There were also more people reporting success with Buhner here at the time.
I liked the depth of information he shares so that I could understand what was going on and the idea of being able to tailor the protocol to my symptoms and preferences. Since he describes why he's selected each herb it's easy to make substitutions and modifications to the protocol (there were things I didn't want to / couldn't take).
I never had much in the way of herxing which while nice
also made it difficult at times to be sure I was on the right track. After treating lyme, babesia and bartonella for two years I feel that I am very close to remission at this point.
The biggest problem I've noticed with Buhner is that people often pick out one or two of the anti-microbial herbs and then find that it doesn't work out so well.
As WalkingByFaith says, no one protocol is going to work for everyone. Ultimately I think it's important to choose the approach that resonates for you and be
open to the possibility that you might end up changing direction at some point.
