I'm not opposed to detoxing or fasting but if I followed Rau's diet to a T, I might be in trouble.

What makes you say that?

@Georgia Hunter, I have low body fat, I appear gaunt and underweight. I am and it's not bc I work at it. I am a bit of a genetic anomaly. I appear anorexic to some, but I'm just unusually petite.

One of my healthcare providers is vegan and she said under no circumstances would I ever recommend that diet for you.

However, I can fast on days doing a liquid broth diet, so long as I eat a light breakfast of lean protein & feel better doing it. But this should not be an everyday thing.

@JovaLyme I have not, but upon your recommendation...I will! Cheers friend, I'm pulling for you!

there are people with TB that never have any symptoms. Same is with syphylis, late syphylis can be asymptomatic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/syphilis#cite_note-eye07-22
This does not mean you dont have the bacteria, or it some mysterious government weapon. That is how some diseases work...

Guys, seriously. Lyme is caused by Borrelia. It has many symptoms, so yeah u can confuse it with something else. But if you have lyme bacteria in your blood (visible at the microscope), your blood test is positive, then you have it. And then u can develop the disease if you havent already, as soon as you have a more serious unrelated health issue: surgery, immunity suppression, wounds.

All this craziness around lyme is caused by the fact we dont have adequate treatments and tests... so it becomes "mysterious".

I remember removing some certain food without doubt had a straight effect on my illness when it started. Especially sugar, i can vividly remember horrible days of ice-pick headaches related to have been eating something containing sugar

Knowing what Louis Pasteur said on his deathbed and knowing about Claude Bernard makes it easier to see what Rau's doing. He's healing people. Being a holistic dr or a natural healer's a dangerous venture these days.

What was that he said?

Diet is a term meaning "method of eating" and not necessarily calorie restriction. You have potentially two issues, you aren't getting enough calories and/or you have a malabsorption issue. Rau's diet would address both problems. It is very individualized and what you would eat may be entirely different than what I would eat under the exact same plan.

@Georgia Hunter, thank you. There may be some malabsorption going on, but various members of my family appear this way. I have been underweight my entire life.

I do take digestive enzymes and have a normal gut despite, episodes of bloating and cramps, but I don't suffer from diarrhea or constipation. So that could be part of the problem, but since I have been underweight my entire life and many of my family members appear this way, I do think it's more of a genetic anomaly.

Like I said, I don't eat gluten, sugar, eggs, very low dairy. If I stop all dairy, it messes with my monthly cycles bc I have low body fat. Red meat only once every two weeks. Only poultry and fish.

I also am low on sodium so that's a problem also.
If I went on an all vegetable/fruit, low grain, low, no dairy, low meat, no nuts, diet daily...I would be in trouble. Why? Because I've done it. But doing that in spurts wouldn't be a problem.

As for diet, I'm extremely thin, and kept losing weight after lyme went away.
Many lyme allergies stopped, but slowly some other food allergies increased with the years.
And so my weight loss continued. It was slow, but sure.
I reached 87 pounds, while my food allergies kept increasing.

I thought: where would I be in 10 years when I have more food allergies / inflammed gut / and less weight?
My future was not bright, and I sincerely feared for my health.

I did fasting (with herbal teas or water) or eating one fruit a day only. It always helped me gain energy, funnily.
Once in the past, fasting alone stopped my lyme symptoms, but as soon as I ate again, some symptoms returned (less strong though).
Fasting was a powerful tool, but with my underweight, I could not do that for more than 10 days.

When I started fearing for my life last year, I decided to give a go on Dr Rau's recommended diet: so I cut all eggs, all milk products (including butter), diminished the amount of proteins drastically (to about 5% of what I used to eat), really, next to nothing.

Then I diminished oils also drastically, no nuts at all, avoided all fruits that had caused me allergies, etc.

I swear that in 4 months, ALL my food allergies DISAPPEARED!
All of them!! I had been suffering from some of these allergies since lyme, about 15 years.

I couldn't eat an apple for about 5 years, no more pineapple, grapes, pomegranate, pears etc. The list was huge.
How could all my food allergies disappear so fast??

So since then, I eat everything back (I mean, fruits), but I sincerely started to FEAR eggs and milk products!!
How could stopping these end all my OTHER food allergies?
I think these foods caused me gut inflammation!!!

I started this diet end of Nov 2018. It's been ONE YEAR without eggs, no milk, no gluten, barely any nuts, low protein (extreme low protein).
And I'm GAINING WEIGHT!!!
I'm 92 pounds now!!

Proteins are harder to digest and sort of hampered my digestion, I feel.
I used to be a protein addict, and now my body sort of rejects proteins.

And despite extreme low fat, low protein diet, I'm gaining weight slowly but surely.
Another great thing is that my mind is so much clearer!

My liver felt totally clogged after lyme, and now I feel it got much lighter again.

I'm not ready to come back to my old diet simply because I can see now that it caused me inflammation.
I'm enjoying a diet full of fruits and veggies, raw and cooked, trying to cut grains, but increasing potatoes.
I do eat some meat once a week or so, more when I go out in restaurants or invite someone to eat home.

It took about 4 months for my brain NOT to feel I was going to die on that low protein, low fat diet, no milk, etc...
4 months!! I felt hungry the whole time at first. Like a withdrawal from addiction. It was hard to change to this diet...

After 6 months I stabilized. No more hunger bouts.
The reason I kept going on, was that I was gaining too many things to let go.

My daughter's depression bouts, anxiety, etc also almost disappeared.
Before we started this diet, I had to pick her from school often, she's got panic attacks, anxiety in ups and down, then in between these, depression, visiting the psychologist etc.
it^s been a year, no more picking her from school, no more shrinks.
I mean, all that due to... diet?!?

I wonder if these foods contribute to some kind of brain inflammation too?
in any way, we're eating like that for almost 1 year now, and not ready to come back to our old diet...

Gosh that's great Shasta! I do believe there is something to this, especially having fasted for my procedure a couple weeks ago.

I don't think, however, I'd know quite how to deal with the weight loss. That is not for me. It would be fine if I was 130 lbs or even 115, but as a petite person, this is worrisome for me.

No eggs, is no problem, and dairy for a few days isn't either, but I really rely on the milk fats. That's not to say I eat ice cream, cheese and milk...no very seldom. Same with nuts. No gluten, not a problem, but then what else?

The two test ever patient does with Dr Rau is a stool test and a dental checkup. His clinic is connected to a dental clinic-with 5 dds
For dental he removes all root canals and metal and looks for cavitations.
He told me that was his strongest medicine,

Magoo, yep, I removed all root canals, all dead teeth (some teeth died out of nothing during lyme, dead from the root, no cavity....).
Since I removed all dead teeth and did a thorough cleaning of jawbones (cavitation), I haven't lost a single tooth (it's been about 5 years or more).
First all amalgams went away, then all root canals, then all dead teeth.
I lost 7 teeth in total...

And mind: I took no single pill of antibiotic during the procedures.
7 cavitation surgeries, no single antibiotic!!
My lyme doctor said he only had to use antibiotic for 2 patients in more than a decade doing teeth /cavitation surgery.
That's the power of homeopathy and nosodes (dr Rau uses growth factors, my doctor makes a remedy from the bacteria found in the jawbone)...
In both cases, no need to use antibiotic...

ElizKA, sorry you are in the same boat as I was, too thin, loosing weight.

For me, this diet is working.

I think my body can absorb nutrients better since gut inflammation was reduced - that's the ONLY explanation I can think of.

I reached 87 pounds when I started this diet Nov 18, now I'm 92 pounds.
It was hard, as I was used to eat proteins in high amounts...

My brain got crazy at first, and my liver too: I read that when the liver is full of toxins and pathogens, plus proteins and fats, it has no place for glucose.

Well, it took 4 months to feel my liver was storing glucose again, so that my hunger bouts slowly got better.
After 6 months eating this way, it felt the right diet. That's what I'm still doing now.

Now I can spend 4, even 5 hours without food and I'm fine.

Happy not to have mounting allergies and to be slowly gaining weight I lost after lyme got dormant (I lost very little every year, but never returned to my pre-lyme weight, which was 96 pounds. )

My daughter is also so much better emotionally and energetically, so positive compared to just a year ago, that I can't let her down.

So I'll continue. It's a bit hard, because no one eats like that in society...

I truly now suspect eggs, milk products and heavy meals did bad to us both.

My husband is still eating old style, some cheese, some eggs, more proteins than us, and he feels he's got to fast on and off to keep problems at bay (his case is eczema, gout, some joint pain like arthritis).

With the age, we accumulate more toxins, more problems, I suppose, and before he was super healthy, but now, he feels he needs to fast...

So I do think we found something to keep us going.
I'm 53 and I'm MUCH better than when I was 52, even 50.
We also have friends that are vegans and do hard sports, both daughter and I.
We know these guys are very performative, big muscles, and they do not eat loads of proteins either, so we're sticking to this diet for the moment.

Let's see what the future will tell.
My daughter still has some minor food allergies, but about 85-90% of her fruit allergies also disappeared as fast as mine, in about 4 months.
We're happy to be able to eat lots of fruits, as fruits are a pillar of our diet.

for us, the hardest to cut was gluten. But we've been eating mostly gluten free for about 12 years, I think...
Gluten can be fine if eaten in small amounts, but definitively, every time we re-started, we had to stop later.
So we're not ready to go back to gluten either...

Anyway, I hope you find answers. It's not fun to lose weight....

Shasta, this makes sense. Maybe about 10 yrs ago I saw a naturopath/kinesiologist that told me to stay away from eggs based on muscle testing.

I went to a medical intuitive and she told me to that proteins were not my friend.

Fast forward to two years ago, I did DNA health testing. I came up that I had a part of gene where I had poor sulfur/ammonia metabolism involving glutathione.

The foods highest in sulfur are eggs, garlic, onions, animal fats, dairy...etc...etc.

I've had poor/borderline diabetes blood tests. I also have had liver, gallbladder, pancreatic pain off and on since the mid 90's. Now it all makes perfect sense.

So last night, I didn't eat dinner. I just had beef bone broth and Jell-O. I woke up feeling rather well. I'm going to try another fast. With just a lean meat and fruit for breakfast and liquid diet throughout the day.

Like, I said I'm in the process of having my fillings removed.

Have not read all these threads.

PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE AMALGAMS REMOVED BY A IAOMT dentist using the SMART removal technique.

Very important to your heath. Also need to be sure they remove all amalgam specks,..

I would highly recommend you go on Andy Cutler Chelation FB site for guidance.

Even many IAOMT dentist are as much about protecting themselves and disregard amalgams specks.

Yes, I have a consultation with my dentist for referral to a dentist that specializes in this.

I have joined the Fbook site. I will not do any detoxing outside of what the ACC recommends. Though I find that site too formalized & not user friendly.

"Have you ever looked at the Wahls' protocol? She is a doctor who had MS and was in a wheelchair. She has made an almost full recovery, cycles, runs and goodness knows what else after a couple of years and she did it all through diet alone"

However, Ive also read that she also used antibiotics, but covers this up. hmmm.
Initial lyme symptoms in late 80's, again with bullseye early 90's. Started ABX 2014, ended in Jan 2016. Flares ended after. Lyme "B gone" as far as I can tell (Cured?). Now: Healing the aftermath-Rebuilding / fine tuning / fixing muscles and still improving nutrition and immune via better gut health. + 20 years of Hashimoto is now improving. Nodule B-gone too.

"Want to keep on eggs, on dairy, on high amount of animal protein, on nuts, allergens, etc? He can't help the patient then, unfortunately. "

Thats too bad, because there are specific tests for these. No one diet works for every one, to many fad followers who dont use science (Drs included).

**Its about what YOUR body needs or doesnt/cant have, NOT the other person. **

I wondered...it sounded too good to be true. I still give some of her's and Rau's methods the benefit of the doubt. But I won't be deviating from my ABX protocol for now if I can help it.

Glad to hear. While I agree on both counts after being on the site for a year I get why they did what they do. Every new batch of people that come on has dozens of posts or replies that contradict the protocol and they want to keep them in check. Also you’ll see some snippy/short reponses from moderators but in almost every case if you were to look at the persons posting history, they.ve either not read the basics, posted the same question before and in many cases just uses the site for symptom management and have been member for years without Chelating.

Flow chart is the best to start but admittedly, it’s daunting at first. Also get to know the avoid list. Protocol can me outright dangerous if not done right.

If you want PM me on this site and I’ll be happy to pass on my user name and throw in some extra support/guidance if I see your post.

Hi Mark,

I get that. I've looked at the flow chart. You can tell it's designed by an engineer. Awfully user unfriendly and very left brain geared. To me, there is an easier way, but oh well.

The fact that there is protocol, that done incorrectly that is "outright dangerous" scares the living daylights out of me. I have contacted a dentist in my area with credentials you've recommended and going to talk to my LLMD about hair testing.

I most likely will be PMing you. Thanks for your support and info!

A guy takes one abx in their life, and that is THE responsible treatment for curing someone from a severe chronic disease?!?!

Come on guys. I wish I knew the name of the single antibiotic that heals chronic lyme!!

I read Buhner's books since 2005, when he first published his 1st lyme book. Since then, I particularly agree that antibiotics are just temporary non-intelligent very limited approach for treating chronic illnesses.
The reasons why antibiotics are not efficient for chronic and resistant infections are in each of Buhner's books.

Yes, I bought and read all of them concerning lyme, the herbal antibiotic one, and recently reading the viral book.

I took a few antibiotics in the past, during lyme, but I felt worse than before.
They anyway did not seem to help. Plus the stomach pains and diarrhea were too intense.
So did my daughter.
We moved to natural treatments, or other treatments. And we healed.

But as in every lyme forum, few believe people heal 100% from lyme. So what can I say?
For me controlling food was always essential.
I started with dr Klinghardt's ART test suggestions.
That alone helped me long ago.

While I agree there are no fixed diets for anyone, I wonder how can Dr Rau get so high amount of success in chronic lyme treatment?
His diet is not exactly 'his', but follows research done in Germany for quite some decades.
Alkaline diet is still very much in trend here, which is basically Dr Rau's suggestions for diet.

But it's not only diet, right?
Jawbone treatment, teeth treatment, heavy metal detox, all are important as well.

Yes, I did that all, and I still do (heavy metal treatment on and off).
I still pay close attention to my jaws and teeth, because they meant hell to me during lyme (even after).

I haven't touched an antibiotic for the last 10 years. Not even to do dental surgery.
My daughter neither.
We avoid antibiotics simply because we found other alternatives, that are better for us.

And yes, we can heal without antibiotics, even I would say, if anyone wants to heal, avoid antibiotics.
But that's me. You can see that Dr Rau uses zero antibiotics.

The person doing the video got a deep surgery in his mouth, and took NO antibiotic after it.
He did many videos, and seemed perfectly okay.

You guys in the States have no idea how this is possible, because of the antibiotic fever.
I did 7 mouth surgeries, took zero antibiotic.
My lyme doctor said he only used antibiotics 2x for all patients who went through cavitation surgeries in the last 2 decades!

Anyway, just posted that here for those who are willing to see other ways to treat chronic illnesses.

I don't know what the answer is. Many of the professional/experts clearly don't have the answers.

Antibiotics have worked for me in the past, but I'm seeing and have seen there are limitations of that mode for me. I can't speak for others. Long-term, I do not see it as a sustainable option. But I don't criticize those who choose that mode.

I have always suspected my fillings way back in my 20's when I started having trouble, were a possible culprit.

Seriously, I don't know what it's like in Switzerland or Europe but many people don't have the means to just ring their dentist up and have their fillings removed lickety split.

Then there is more expensive heavy metal testing, I know that's coming out of my pocket too. Then waiting for the results and a crash course in heavy metal detox, a book purchase and a detox that can result in serious danger if done incorrectly! Great...after everything one has been through.

Seriously, does this ever end??? I've been dealing with autoimmune disease for 26 years if that doesn't make one sick, in it of itself???

Further, even if you do have the means, you have to go to a dentist that is highly trained in this. It is not a straight forward clear cut process of "hi, I want to replace my metal fillings...can you pencil me for Thursday at 8 am?"

Case in point, the dentist I want/need to see is booked until January. He's the only one credentialed in this type of dentistry in my area, though there are several that claim to specialize in amalgam filling removal. And while I do have insurance, how much of this will be covered? I may only be able to do it one filling at a time.

So I see both sides of those who prefer to treat chronic Lyme with ABX and those who are looking for an alternative to that as well.

Just my two cents. Last post on this.
