Hi everyone,

So my LLMD recommended I give either buhner or byron white protocol a try for my slight bartonella relapse. My main infection is bartonella with possible babesia. Abx treatment was rough for me before so, although it was effective, it really damaged my gut and liver and want to try an herbal route this time, particularly because my symptoms are nowhere near where it used to be. But I have a few questions regarding the few protocol for those who may have gone this route before:

1. Which is more cost effective?
2. Which is more potent?
3. Which will cause a stronger herx?
4. Which is more frequently used?
5. Any other pros and cons I should consider?

Thanks again!

The A-Bart Byron White drops definitely gave me a stronger herx. I would also say they are more cost effective because you spend about 90 dollars for a bottle that will last you at least two or three months, while with Buhner, you have to usually buy 3 bottles of tincture, for maybe 40 dollars each, that will only last for a month (if you were me, at least). I was taking 4 or 6 dropperfuls a day of each buhner herb—they didn't make me herx much.

Obviously, Byron White Formulas are more potent—almost too potent. As for which one is better for bartonella, I don't know. I would try Byron White if you aren't under a lot of stress and are able to deal with the herx reactions. For me, the only Buhner herb that really worked for bartonella was boneset.

What mostly happened for me is that the bartonella is slowly going away since I got rid of the Lyme.

Cost effective - It's probably possible to buy bulk herbs for Buhner and process them yourself and have it be cheaper, but if you're not going to DIY anything, then I'd say they're about the same.

Potent - Probably BW, though everyone is different.

Herx - I definitely herxed more with BW.

Frequently used - Buhner, because of ease of accessibility and I think more people have heard of it.

Considerations - Byron White formulas are great but contain a lot of ingredients, so if you are prone to side effects or sensitivities, then it's better to do Buhner so you can start one thing at a time and eliminate anything that gives you intolerable side effects or aggravates your gut and/or liver. While I agree that herbal treatment is better for your liver and gut than pharmaceutical antibiotics are, herbs are still medicine, and they can and do tax the gut and liver depending on a person's level of sensitivity. Sounds like you know that, just making sure, since some people thing herbs are harmless.

I know you didn't ask for more ideas, but one thing that hit Bartonella hard for me (too hard!) is the DesBio Bartonella series kit. It's a homeopathic kit that targets all strains of Bartonella in all stages of disease. I usually have little or no reaction to traditional homeopathy (although I have only self-treated with it and not consulted a homeopath) but the DesBio kit for Bartonella absolutely floored me. Might be worth looking into, as aside from the herx it would cause, it would not harm the liver or gut.

Saraeli, same here with homeopathy - it was the kit of German nosodes of Borrelia that put a definitive end to my and my daughter's lyme disease relapses. Drinking it did not work for us though, we had to use photons / infrared to get it enhanced. Amazing stuff.

As for BW, I haven't took this.
I took Buhner's herbs in BULK, so it was absolutely not too expensive, and I'm super sensitive so I can't go on combo products - they end up almost 100% in the garbage due to extreme side effects.

So I like to choose every single ingredient, like Saraeli said. I needed sometimes only 1/4 of a capsule to get herxes and reactions while people needed many capsules to feel something!

The byron white stuff is great but too expensive in my opinion. In sure there are many here that can attest to the powerful a-bart herx. The ingredients are listed on the products so you can buy them separately.

I would do a mix of buhner and byron white.
Buhner:
Houyytunia
Isatis
Japanese knotweed
Sida acuta
Green tea
Etc
Byron white:
Neem
Gou teng
Garlic (nature's plus garlite)
Also:
Campsiandra agustifolia

That's a good idea. That's basically what I ended up doing—I took neem, garlic, sida, etc. Doing some of Buhner and some of Byron white ended up working pretty well.
