Nic, yes we did have similar symptoms. My main ones were fatigue, anxiety, and POTS. I got to remission the first time by taking Rifampin and Minocycline (for bartonella specifically) for 2 months followed by a few months of weekly Bicillin shots (for any residual Lyme and because my LLMD has found that the Bicillin really helps his patients that had the Lyme Brain symptoms.
Unfortunately I relapsed after 6 months at the beginning of this year - I tested positive for Babs (which I now believe was a false positive) and treated that for 5 months with malarone and Zith, then went after Bart (which I tested positive for again at the same time as Babs - only Igenix picked it up).
I couldn’t tolerate Bactrim, then did Doxy and Zith, continued to get gradually worse but still was functioning and working, then switched to rifampin and mino again and crashed hard. Rifampin absolutely destroyed me, I spent a day in the hospital, and I had to take a month off from work and was basically housebound (this was October).
My doctor put me on Dr. SP’s protocol for Bart (diflucan and tetracycline 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) and it’s been miraculous so far. Today is my last day of the 2nd 2 weeks on (so, 4 weeks of abx total) and now I’ll cycle off For 2 weeks and I also see my LLMD next week. Other than the POTS I feel basically normal Most of the time. I’m working, driving, and I’m exercising every day. I noticed a huge difference by the middle of the 2nd week on. I’m hoping it’s curative and not just temporarily masking the symptoms (when I was on doxy and zith it made me functional but I still couldn’t exercise and as soon as I stopped I would go back to feeling like crap). The first 2 weeks off this protocol I was able to maintain most of the gains so I’m very hopeful. It’s such a simple combo - just have to monitor your liver enzymes due to the diflucan. The brain symptoms are definitely gone - it’s just POTS and some periodic fatigue (which could be related to the POTS, who knows). I’m hoping that they resolve over time.
I believe Bart has been the driver of my symptoms this entire time. You should definitely consider trying this protocol if nothing else is working for you. I was running out of options and if this didn’t work my LLMD was going to put me on Levaquin.
This is great info. Can you email me the doctors name and the details of the protocol? Dosage, etc. I'd love to give it a shot. I have lots of diflucan left from old prescript
I have POTS and just met with my cardiologist yesterday. He said that the best thing to do is not to run at first. He said to get on a stationary bike and pedal as hard as you can for 30 seconds and then for 90 seconds go slow to get your heart rate back down to around 120 and then repeat 5 times.
He promised me that with that alone, my sx will be significantly better in 2 weeks.
