the first rule in toxicology is dilution:
so although there are many other factors and things you can take to help - one of the first should be lots of pure clean water.
Of course, not all toxins are water-soluble - but without sufficient water flowing through the body and its detox pathways all detox processes will be harder.
this is cheap and easy to do with v few adverse effects - so I would say try to drink around 2.5 to 3litres of clean filtered water per day.
Dr Horowitz uses the following for liver detoxification support.
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Lipsomal or reduced glutathione
Stephen Buhner has a list of herbs that specifically help the liver and its detox capacity
Milk Thistle Seed
there are also a couple of herbs specific for liver damage from infection
but i understand some caution is needed in their use:
Organic Bupleurum (Bupleurum Chinese) is used to normalize liver function and stimulate an immune response. It is liver protective and anti-viral.
Organic Phyllanthus (Phyllanthus ssp.) protects the liver against disease and toxins, serves as a tonic for the liver, and reduces inflammation. It is specific against liver viruses. It clears liver obstructions and is used in cases of jaundice, chronic dysentery, and cirrhosis.
there are also binders such as:
these are supposed to be able to trap and escort toxins out of the body in the stool due to their texture/ structure
chlorella is a blue-green algae with similar properties believed to do a similar thing
there is also some evidence to suggest the herb coriander/cilantro has the ability to help the body excrete heavy metals
