So I went through my diet w/ my naturopath. I was not getting enough calories, but especially carbs. Normally people on keto still struggle to stay under 30g/carbs to stay into ketosis, as everything has hidden carbs. I went too extreme the other way, not taking all of her recommendations and really limiting everything, and we added it up and I was about
7-10g/carbs per day. This was causing me to have a real problem with low blood sugar, which causes glutamate surges. I am adding in a few blue berries a day to keep this number up into the 20s g carbs/day.
In addition, my calorie intake was just too low, which caused me to lose weight. Breakdown in muscle releases glutamine. Glutaminase breaks down glutamine into glutamate and ammonia (Glutamine + H2O → glutamate + NH3) . We are adding in more fats (a few tbspn of coconut oil for example can generate 500cal) to my diet so my body isnt burning muscle.
I already feel quite a bit better. This keto has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get there it's worth it
