My BMI is constantly low along with muscle loss waisting. Does either lyme or more bart cause a low body mass index. It's like I can gain a few pounds bt the bmi stays low and no muscle gain.

BMI is not a very good way to determine body composition. And as we know, there are many healthy people on the high and low end of this scale even when they eat well and get some exercise.

Body Fat Percentage, is more accurate way to determine body composition.

That said, if someone noticed major changes in either of these once lyme set in, well, thats prob the reason....

digestion issues and other metabolic upsets are common with lyme and co-infections.

which is contributing most to a given symptom is an area that is far from resolved and probably ultimately not very helpful in the grand scheme of things.

for instance - it's likely that the organisms synergize by upregulating inflammatory cytokines and other compounds that interact with each person's unique body chemistry and other environmental factors to result in a slightly different symptom picture in each individual.

however - before going too deep down this rabbit hole i would suggest dealing with macro factors first. this will likely have the largest effect on outcomes.

eg
-dietary intake
are you getting sufficient macronutrients ( fats, carbohydrates and high-quality protein ) to gain weight in general

-activity level / exercise
are you doing any form of strength training - i know this can be difficult in chronic illness - but without these signals to your body it will be very difficult to maintain or regain muscle mass over time and pretty much impossible if you already low weight and not eating surplus to baseline.

the widespread inflammation from lyme and co - increases the rate of breakdown of musculoskeletal tissues and so makes it harder for the body to rebuild and grow so you really have to get the basics in place to make progress.

Thanks everyone the only thing I've noticed is acute pancreatitis and gallbladder/ digestion issues at times. It's so random and scary. I'm getting enough fats and proteins I eat healthy I guess my pancreas or supposedly Sphincter of oddi distinction isn't letting me absorb fat and nutrients enough. Bt odd enough I gained a few pounds of fat it's just bones and muscles is the biggest issue. Oddly enough I've heard many times bart is the culprit for destroying endothelial cells and the gut lining and also can cause gastritis bt doc thinks it's just gastritis.

yes, i also have gallbladder issues - or have in the past - believed to be due to lyme.

Dr Burrascano says a large number of his Lyme patients have gall bladder issues - and even worked with a local doctor to test the gall bladders removed from 4 of his patients - all 4 were infected with BB spirochetes, 2 confirmed by culture, 2 confirmed by PCR.
he talks about this in his Norvect presentation on youtube in 2014

he thinks perhaps the environment there suits Borrelia in some way that makes this a preferred site of infection.
i had issues resurface again recently - but after 2 liver flushes - the ultrasound was completely clear/normal so i don't actually know the reason for my recent niggles.

i also had a gastroscopy a year or so ago and they found gastritis and again no reason for it identified, but it does fit with Bartonella. the Same Lyme doc says that Bart is the next most common cause for gastritis after H.Pylori.

both bart and h.pylori suppress stomach acid production and in doing so i think suppress pancreatic function also. but people who are chronically ill with any sort of long term condition may have dysfunction of both of these independently in any case. supplements can help - eg Betaine HCL and pancreatic enzymes - if this is the case

I’m having this problem as well. April 2019 I was a pretty athletic 190 lbs. then I got stomach sick in Costa Rica and the autoimmunity and neuropathy began. I dropped all the way down to 163, even tho I was eating plenty of calories. Since stating this ketogenic diet neuropathy is much healed, but i dropped down to 158. I then realized my caloric intake was too low and got it up to 2000-2200/day. I’ve stabilized but can’t gain weight. My inflammation is way down as evidenced by my neuropathy and mood and general sense of well being I’m feeling. My stools are now perfect so no more sibo. Maybe I just need to amp it up to 3000 calories, but hard to do on keto. I worry there’s something else’s going on

Was wondering wt did u use as a liver flush something natural? I have a liver cyst and my doc says it can be a type of tapeworm is liver cyst form so a flush may benefit me.

I used the olive oil and grapefruit juice flush method - as per Andrea Mortiz
there have been some discussions of it here quite recently with more details
