I bought some Orgain Collagen Peptides and have taken 5-7 doses. Jar says 2 scoops. I have been using 1 scoop to start. So far, no shingles flares.

I have noticed a slight change in my bowels for the better. I have IBS, ropeworm, and high yeast metabolites from either yeast or mold, and dysbiosis. So, lots of intestinal inflammation.

Does collagen help the gut somehow?

Supposed to rebuild the gut walls, but never did anything for me.

I personally think that you can take as many supplements as you want, but unless you limit your diet for 3m at least to get the inflammation under control, you're pushing on a string. After you do that, then supplements have an effect.

I just did a little digging (and remembering). My Functional MD who dx me with CIRS had me on bone broth. I drank it daily for about 8 months until I got shingles. It didn’t help my gut then. I’m in a different place now.

Here’s my next question - is bone broth better than collagen peptides?

I think I know the answer, but I am curious if anyone has any research knowledge about it. Peptides appear to be much more affordable and convenient.

Bone broth helped me put on a few pounds again after I been suffering with lyme and bart. I've tried different types of collagen powders and can't say I noticed any difference everyone is different though and I maybe didn't use it long enough.

Has anyone used collagen powders and had any good results as far as helping gain muscle back?

I would second DCDs comments. I would focus on a gut healing protocol first before spending much on supplements. Something like GAPS, Whals, or AIP. I found the GAPS intro worked well for me but I’ve done a mishmash of all three at various times.

If you can start making sauerkraut, or kefir (water was the easiest for me) then you’ll be taking a consistent set of bacteria for little cost while healing.

You could consider taking lysine if you’re worried about shingles as a precaution.
