Does anyone get daily low grade fevers? And does anyone know the root cause of these fevers?

running wild had/has this.

I’m sure he’ll chime in.

Running Wild and others have experienced this, and I hope they will share.

Do you have other symptoms that flare along with the fevers?

My temperature fluctuates throughout the day, and my internet research revealed that a fluctuation of a full degree or more is normal for many people, peaking in the evening. People who menstruate often have elevated temperatures before menstruation begins, also.

If you don't have other symptoms associated with the elevated temperatures, then perhaps it's normal for you. Otherwise, look into chronic viral infections, thyroid, other hormonal issues, and nervous system health, as those things can influence body temperature regulation.

@saraeli - I don’t have any other symptoms that occur whenever I get these fevers. They usually happen at the same time everyday but the time changes week to week

What temperature do you get exactly?
And is there such a thing as a pathogen specific body temperature? For instance a bartonella specific body temperature? I feel like a daily body temp of around 99° Fahrenheit is attributed to chronic bartonellosis but I'm just guessing here. Could be anything really.

One of the guys I talk to started getting daily low-grade fevers between 99-100 past few months. He recently tested positive by PCA for EBV. I think this was runningwild’s problem as well

i have some notes from a presentation by Dr Burrascano on this ( the guy the wrote the ILADS treatment guidelines.

i also read that the more immunosuppressed your system is the lower these fevers may be

---------
From Q and A
Clinical signs that may cause you to suspect or differentiate from lyme
1. Disproportionate CNS symptoms – esp rage, anxiety, irritability = bart
2. 99.5 C morning mild fevers or mild night sweats – vs afternoon fevers mild with Lyme
3. Relapse after treatment with ABX stops
- lyme = slow 3-4weeks
- bart = fast to respond – and fast to relapse 4-5days – 7-10 max
he notes that the clinical picture he sees in Bart is rarely clear cut and exactly as the textbooks for cat scratch fever - many other symptoms and presentations are possible and a great deal of overlap with Lyme - or often people have both - or you just don’t know – but abx can be selected that work well for both / and more

@garzie so the low grade fevers could be from Lyme and/or bartonella?

yep - that's how i would read it - can be difficult to pick apart - but if you know you already have both then its likely academic which - the usual plan of action would be to treat for both

USS - I had similar low grade fevers, always in the afternoon or early evening, for about two years. I was also diagnosed with EBV and attributed it to that, but now I'm not quite sure why they were happening. With the LG fever came fatigue, and I could tell I was about to get a mild fever just by how I felt before it happened.

For whatever reason, the fevers, for the most part, have stopped. Not sure why. I have had a resurgence of fatigue, but it seems to be related to heart or kidneys. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

@running wild

Thanks for sharing, that sounds similar to my fevers. With EPV, wouldn’t the virus symptoms only last a month or so and then the Lyme symptoms continue after the virus is gone?

That's what I thought. No doctor or naturopath could answer that question. The fever I experienced was sometimes as low as 98.8, but my usual body temperature is usually around 98.0 - 98.2, so I could feel it before checking.

So you don't feel any fatigue when it hits? And is there a certain time of day for them?

EBV can be chronic, causing dysfunction in many areas, potentially including immune system modulation and body temperature regulation. Many believe that it's an underlying cause of CFS/ME. Of course, everything I just said can be said of Lyme as well. :-/

USSB, what is your normal body temperature?

My LLMDs have been concerned about how high my EBV titers are, and they have recommended treatment for chronic viral infection with monolaurin and transfer factor (specifically Researched Nutritionals PlasMyc, which contains actual EBV antibodies). I have not tried either, but thought I'd pass along the recommendations.

Any chance you have MCAS and these low-grade fevers are part of MCAS flares? Many people experience more MCAS symptoms as the day wears on because of more exposure to triggers.

I would actually say I do feel extra fatigued when I have the fevers. And usually it’s the worst in the morning or in the evenings. I can get them a few times a day too. Sometimes it’s even steady throughout an entire day from 98.8-99.1...

@saraeli

I actually just began treatment for mcas but haven’t officially been diagnosed. Wouldn’t the histamine blockers get rid of the fevers if mcas was the culprit? I’ve noticed a rash begin to clear out from the mcas meds and ive been on them for about a week... plz lmk!

Sometimes people need several different simultaneous MCAS treatments to control all the different symptoms. One treatment might help one set of symptoms and miss others. But your question makes sense, of course. I guess the answer is maybe? :-/

Never had fevers in morning. That might differentiate between what each of us actually has/had.

saraeli - Have you had a EBV DNA test run? I may have asked you that in the past. According to a couple of infectious disease doctors I saw and Dr. Jernigan, you can have high titers of antibodies, but if your EBV DNA is negative, that means it is not active. And that confuses me, but with three different experts saying it to me, and one so Lyme focused, I thought it must be true.

I’m doing Claritin and cromolyn- do you know if it can take longer than a week to see results with regards to mcas?
