So my NP has me on Mutaflor. It's a lab created probiotic designed for Ulcerative Colitis that is actually a strain of E. Coli that quickly starves off the bad bacteria.

The first few days on this are ROUGH as you get die off. I nearly hurled about 5x, and thought I was goin to have to quit. Last night I took quicksilver binder with it to mop up the biotoxins. I did not get sick and the gas and diarrhea are gone today.

My question is, I know that binders bind to biotoxins released from die-off, but do they also bind to live bacteria? I.e. by taking the binders, did I just absord the probiotic before it could do any good, or did it just mute the response from the die off? I clearly dont want to be blunting the action of the probiotic.

Bump

I know general rule of thumb is to take binders a couple of hours away from abx, herbs, supps.. not sure about probiotics/mutaflor.

Looks like the quicksilver is bentonite clay and activated charcoal?

i had read somewhere a long time ago that some binders can bind live bacteria - just by virtue of all the little spaces in them - eg like activated charcoal

i doubt they could mop up a growing colony of bacteria like mutaflor that should be multiplying rapidly in the gut rather than just passing through as some probiotics do. at least not unless you took huge amounts - but to be on the safe side I would take a couple of hours apart
