I just wanted to mention that I’ve been using a new herb for tendons etc., that has been really effective for me.

I’ve been taking Solomon’s Seal for around 7 weeks and over that time it’s helped with some of the muscle imbalances and tightness that’s presumably been caused by Lyme.

My ankle tendonitis is improving (not healed), I’m having less trouble with my knee and most noticeably I’ve regained a lot of the range of motion that I had lost in my yoga practice.

Jim McDonald has a lot to say about this herb :
https://herbcraft.org/solseal.html

I’m thinking of trying his external application of nettle stings to help with healing my long standing tendonitis once it’s growing here.

PeteZa is the only one I’ve seen mention using this herb on here so I wanted to post as I only recently thought to try it.

Fwiw - I believe that the use of echinacea angustifolia as an hyaluronidase inhibitor along with ongoing physical work is part of it too.

I should add that I had to be careful to use this one at very low dose (McDonald suggests 7 drops) as it appeared to lower my blood sugar which is an issue for me.

Thanks for posting, Ive never heard of this one before(!)

I say this as the mnt bike season has had an early transition from snow-fat biking (much more cardio and gentle balance) to more aggressive dirt riding (muscles). My shoulder muscles and tendons are tired, sore, and stiff today (but not pain) from all the dry bumps that were previously cushioned with snow just a while ago. ....getting old doesn't help either.

per the link:

"Without doubt, Solomon's Seal is the most useful remedy I know of for treating injuries to the musculoskeletal system. I've used it to treat broken bones, sprains, injured tendons and ligaments, tendonitis, arthritis, dryness in joints and "slipped"/herniated discs (including mine - that sure did hurt...). Solomon's Seal has the remarkable ability to restore the proper tension to ligaments, regardless of whether they need to be tightened or loosened. This makes it a valuable remedy for sports & activity related injuries, used either before resorting to or along with conventional surgical procedures. I know of several instances when use of Solomon's Seal prevented the need for surgery, and also have seen it speed recovery time for people who have had surgery."

on my list

Yes! He is definitely very enthusiastic about this herb. :D

It seems like an herb that would work best during the rehab stage rather than active infection. I'm taking a break from it now to see if I'm able to hold on to my gains. I'm continuing to do active-release-type therapy, some yin-style stretching and also strengthening for my achilles tendon. I'm very hopeful to have it back to rights this year. Fingers crossed at least.

If you try it please do let me know how it goes for you.

Its native to the Great Lakes area and just figured out its in my backyard shrub and fence line. A bulbous root with hanging flowers turning to blue berries in late season, ......all poisonous besides the upper bulb/root part. .....Think I’ll just buy it!

Sandy- how many drops a time X how many times a day?

Mine says 1 to 2 droppers three times a day. Droppers and one drop or two different things LOL that sounds like a lot

McDonald suggests as little as 7 drops 3-4x a day. I tried it as high as half a dropper 3x but it seemed to cause hypoglycaemia for me so I lowered it to 7 drops or so.

I think it’s one you’ll have to play with to see.

Mine was at 1:2 which may be a little stronger fwiw.

Ahaa.......1:3 which is stronger that what I picked up.

EDIT: Elk Mnt Herbs ratio says 1:5 root and distilled water, then 40% alcohol added.

Just doing 7 drops x three times a day for starters last few days.

If this works well, I might actual try to make some. Its weird how the bulb is safe, yet the stocks are poisonous.

The herbalist said its growing on my fence-line because nature knows I need it (spooky!).

I hope it proves helpful.

You’re very lucky to have some growing. I’ve always liked it as a garden plant but it can be finicky.

... now you got me interested in it.

Maybe it would work on my shoulder blade/upper back

It might help Girlie. It seemed best for evening out some of my imbalances which has made physio work easier.

For my ankle, which is my oldest injury, it hasn’t changed the feeling of a knot of damaged fibres right on the ankle bone. But it has made it easier for me to gently stretch the Achilles’ tendon and the calf (substantially! Like downward dog, heels on the floor again after being an inch or two off) and then do load bearing exercises.

My knee no longer locks due to patellar issues but I still have what is probably damage to the meniscus. (Who knows as I can’t get in to see a physio and I’m not interested in surgery).

I haven’t regained the lost mobility in my spine but I did regain a lot of movement in my hips which is making stretching and strengthening easier.

It’s hard to describe - the effects are both subtle and dramatic at the same time lol. It’s worth exploring.

Girlie-

- the comments section mentions even using the ticture topically > https://commonwealthherbs.com/solomons-seal-beyond-sprained-ankles/

And I see the oil is available too > https://redmoonherbs.com/products/solomons-seal-polygonatum-biflorum-herbal-oil

----------------------------------------

Ive only used the tincture orally for a few days now, I will try it topically on my problem ankle right now.
