So I've been taking B12 injections since 2013. Two times a week. Every time I stop I get weird cramps and tingles in my hands after two, three weeks. Also feels like less motor control. So it's clear the B12 is helping. What I don't get is why the only B12 form that seems to work is intramuscular. I get the same cramping and tingles when I take B12 supplements.

Maybe the pill dosage isn't high enough?
I've tried pills, spraying under my tongue & liposomal B12.
I would love to stop poking needles in myself.

Spray: methylcobalamine
Injection: hydroxocobalamine
Pills: methylcobalamine
Liposomal drops: hydroxocobalamine

Or maybe it's the form of B12?

Anyone experienced the same thing?

Hi Vimzor,

Have you tried a sublingual form? Those are designed to dissolve under the tongue (you can't do this with regular B-12 pills).

Why it's not working so far could be several things. B12 needs intrinsic factor (a protein) in the stomach. If you're lacking that it won't be absorbed. You also need folic acid. A lack of stomach acid could be another reason and certain medications like antacids and metformin can interfere.

Could also be that you need a higher dose. Only about ~1% is absorbed, that's why it always comes in massive doses ~1000%RDI

Yeah, I've also tried sublingual. Under my tongue, 5000 mcg per pill every day. Should be enough I think.

I never had pernicious anemia so I'm probably making enough intrinsic factor? Interesting though, didn't know about this protein until just now.
