https://www.palomahealth.com/learn/natural-desiccated-thyroid-drugs

I just stumbled across this in the link, while googling NP thyroid.

Summary-This just works better than other thyroid meds for some people and they need it to function properly. It might possibly go away or be so expensive they can’t afford it. This is what the FDA wants.

Natural desiccated thyroid medicine goes back further than 100 years ago in the USA. That was before the FDA was overlooking prescription medicines.

NDT was grandfathered in (so everyone thought) for years until the FDA started testing it in 2008. Which resulted in four other brands in the USA dropping the product.

Two manufacturers remained after that, one of which made two similar but different offerings. Their brands being dropped made the two remaining products very hard to get. So many people purchased Erfa thyroid from Canada during this time.

Then about eight years ago NP thyroid made by a Acella came into the market.

For those who don’t know- the most popular name Armour Thyroid is from armour meat Company.

The FDA wants to classify the main ingredients as some type of a “ biologic “ med which apparently makes drugs that fall into that classification extremely expensive.

This main ingredient is also what’s used in compounded natural thyroid medicine. There are still a few compounding pharmacies in many medium size cities.

As far as compounding anything goes, the FDA wants to slowly illegalize that as well, or pressure individual states to do this.

This is pure insanity. And from googling I see it’s not very well-known yet.

Some people need this type of thyroid medicine to be optimal in their thyroid treatment. We need to be optimal to function in our daily personal lives and in society.

It’s not always our first choice to take this, we take this because this is what works best for us. I have taken the synthetic combination of T4 and T3, some do well on this, some do not.

Unfortunately there is not an awesome thyroid forum on the Internet anymore. The two leading advocates are Mary Shamon, who is interviewed in the link above, and then the angry lady-from stop the thyroid madness website. The STTM website itself is kind of a mess to maneuver I tried looking at it on my phone and did not see any of this information there yet, I was surprised. Maybe there are some thyroid Facebook groups exchanging this information I don’t know I haven’t looked there yet.

After googling for hours I found there was a brand new natural desiccant thyroid medicine in America.

https://adthyza.com/hcp/affordable-access

This is pig thyroid Consisting of T4 and T3.

They are trying to market this differently With two ways of getting it. From a participating pharmacy or direct from the company itself. Their big spiel is each tablet can cost one dollar a day. But, everyone who takes natural desiccated thyroid knows they don’t have enough variations of sizes so usually end up getting a couple of them and splitting them daily to make your daily dose. This is what’s required to be optimal. It’s simple Second grade math. So if you’re taking multiples and splitting them it could be anywhere from $1.50 to 2 dollars a day. Not exactly cheap as they make it out to be.

I find this rather surprising since the FDA is putting new regulations on this type of medicine per this post in 2029.

i would take desiccated thyroid if i could get it reliably and affordably

but i do seem to recall numerous scares and scandals associated with it over the years - wrong doses, inconsistent strength, contamination - that sort of thing - so i guess that's why the FDA want to do away with it

i wouldn't be too worried though - as long as there is demand there will likely be a way to get it

I have experienced the inconsistent strengths in the past with some lots. It wasn’t really that far off, I could tell a difference but it wasn’t that bad.

I’m not aware of any scandals with it in the US. The Internet available “Thyroid S” is something that I was too chicken to try out. I think that’s what they called it. No prescription needed, over the Internet from Thailand, what can go wrong? I’ve heard that was discontinued just before The pandemic not 100% sure about that though.
