Gday Guys,
I haven't posted on this site before but need to clarify some information. My 13 year old daughter has begun to have severe migraines. She has had about 6 really bad ones in the last 6months where she is in terrible pain, vomits with nausea, loses vision in one or both eyes and power in her arms. The loss of vision can effect her for days. She had an MRI and I did a naughty thing and opened it and read the report. Some of the findings are as follows - "Minor focal white matter hyperintensity in the deep white matter in the left cerebral hemisphere is non specific in size and nature..................There is asymmetry of the lateral ventricles with a prominant right lateral ventricle..................A small focal lesion particularly anteriorly within the temporal lobes and a small lesion are identified". The radiologist suggests "Repeat examination after removal of the braces to exclude any small structural anomaly". (She has braces on and a lot of the MRI was not visible) I know that in time our neurologist will discuss the findings with us but I need to understand if migraines can cause lesions and what, if any effect lesions have on developing brains. What can I do to help her with this problem. Are lesions sores/tumors/clots on the brain? What are structural anomalies and why not make a diagnosis from the available information? You guys are the experts and I need advice.

Hi Annie,

Sorry to hear your daughter is suffering with migraines. Unfortunately we are not Doctors here, and it would not be right for any of us here to express an opinion on the MRI detail that you gave as we are not qualified.

Please try not to worry, we will support you and your daughter as best we can, but the best person to speak to about this is your daughters Consultant.

Please let us know how you get on, take care
