Hello all, Joined for another reason (GERD pretty much), but saw this forum and just had to tell you guys what fixed me up.

Okay, so I suffer from Migraines, Auras, temporary blindness post aura (scared me), Migraine pain, nausea, the whole nine yards.

I did the whole Motrin and Aleve thing, it helped, but a lot of the pain still got through.

Turns out the Migraines were triggered by either 1. Lack of sleep (Exam Week last december was when they happened... for the first time in 6 years), 2. Extreme Caffiene drop (Drank a LOT of Rockstar to study and stay awake, don't do that... when the caffiene leaves your system later it is a tremendous drop and can definitely trigger a migraine), or 3. General Anxiety (Once again, Exam Week).

Well, so I was getting these horrible migraines. This was the pattern.

1. Zig Zag fractal vision, AKA one of the many Migraine Auras.
2. Loss of left peripheral vision, both eyes, an aftereffect of auras, which is a period of hyperactivity in a certain area of the brain (The Fractal Vision for me) and then lower activity (the blindness).
3. It goes away, but 20 minutes into... the migraine, and it sure does hurt.
4. I eventually start to get nausea too.
5. Goes away after 2-3 hours, not sure about how long it would take to go away naturally, but I am always on aleve or motrin.
6. Usually feel very tired after the whole thing ends.

Reason I posted the cycle I went through, is because my mom, my uncle, and my aunt go through exactly the same cycle (Aunt gets Auditory Auras though, and my mom experiences a facial numbness post aura) and this thing worked for them too, so it might just be a certain kind of migraine.

So, onwards to the treatment, which btw can be taken at the same time as aleve or motrin.

The thing is called "Head-On" and the easiest way I can describe it is like a Vicks Vaporub Chapstick which you rub on your forehead. The difference is, that is definately not Vicks Vaporub, because it feels like penetrates.

So you get an icy hot sort of sensation (which is nice, because I can't stand Ice Packs, personally) that seems to penetrate, and pretty quick the pain just sort of deadens, and sometimes even goes away.

Ever since that week, I've always carried a stick of that stuff in my backpack. It worked incredibly well.

I can get it at my local publix, so you guys can too. There are three kinds: Extra Strength Headache Pain Reliever, Extra Strength Sinus Headache Relief, and Migraine Pain Reliever. I've only used the third one.

It contains these things:

* Potassium dichromate 3 × 10^-8%
* White Bryony 4 × 10^-14%
* Blue Flag Iris Versicolor 1 × 10^-13%

I have no earthly idea what they are but apparently it is the third one that makes the difference, the first two are in all 3 variants of Head-On.

I don't know too much about it, for all I know it might just be Icy Hot in a tube, but all I know is it works, for 4 different people too. And it is a heck of a lot more convenient than an Ice pack, also, it goes on clear, and it doesn't seem to stain my hair at all.

Apparently the company also assorts there are no dosage restrictions and you can use it as often as you want. I found that once is enough though.

Also, once, (only happened once, never got it to work this way again), I applied at the onset of the aura, and after the aura ended, the migraine never came!!! Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to work that way again... ever.

Hope it helps y'all out! It certainly did for me.

SOOOO glad that works for ya, I've always used head on along with my other migraine treatments, but I'm not really sure that it does much for the pain, but the icy warm feeling kind of makes me think about something besides pain so it works kind of as a diversion for me. A few months ago they had a thing on the news about head on not really doing anything besides get warm and cold (which is a lot like icy hot or bengay) but there were a bunch of migraine sufferers saying how much it helps them. Whether it knocks it out or just makes you think about something else it can still be a useful tool that can be used along with most other treatments!
Diagnosis-- Chronic Severe Migraine with daily headache usually caused by tension
Medications-- Daily: Topamax 100mg & Welbutrin 100mg
                    PRN: D.H.E. 45 Injection or Migranol, Phenergan, Ultram, Fioricet
