I just wanted to share some information about some success I've been having treating/preventing my migraines. I went to a chiropractic office seeking an evaluation with their acupuncturist. First they gave me an evaluation from a chiropractic standpoint. The doctor found that my neck had lost its normal curvature. The muscles in my neck and shoulders were weak which added to the alignment issue. Because there are major nerves that run up through the neck to the brain, he said that this alignment issue could be contributing to my migraines.

Over the course of a month, I went in for treatments two to three times a week which included a neck adjustment, neck and shoulder strength training with physical therapists, a 15-minute massage, and 15 minutes receiving electronic stimulation on my neck/shoulder muscles. I also do several stretches at home. Due to the rapid improvement I am seeing him less frequently now - about once a month (my insurance company covers 20 chiro appointments a year). I started to see a minor backslide in my improvements but found that giving myself a brief massage at night (using a hand held massager) has addressed the issue. I will have to do the stretches and strength training for the rest of my life.

Anywhoo....I have had tremendous improvement due to this treatment. In three years of seeing my city's leading headache specialist, no one ever recommended seeing a chiropractor. I've tried every preventive drug out there with no success. I was basically taking Imitrex 12 to 16 times a month. And I believe that's how things would continue for years if I hadn't sought this out for myself.

I encourage people to seek out this option. From reading this forum, I know there are a lot of suffering people out there. I suffered for four years. I hope this advice helps someone out there.
