Hi! just wondering if there are any 20 year sufferers out there who tried just about everything over the years and have it not work, make it worse with side effects, quit working etc. And the biggy- have things worsen to the point you cannot work.

Hi dito,

Welcome to Healing Well. I have suffered with migraine and other headaches since I was in my teens - I am 54 now!! I have been round the block with the meds too! There was a time when I didn't work, but I do now but only by the skin of my teeth!

I am constantly having to review the situation as I have periods that functioning at all is a challenge!! Please tell us more about yourself and what happens with your head?

take care

Hi Ann-nice to hear from you.
I have been a registered nurse for twenty years, raising a family, the whole life thing while working around migraines. The migraines just progressively worsened to the point where i could not function at work. went back to the family Dr. then neurologist whose medication just made things worse then botox which was useless but his cash cow. He said that was about the last option he could suggest as i had tried just about everything else. So I am hoping and waiting for things to settle out (will it ever) so i can at least do something even if I can no longer practice nursing(which is looking more like I will be unable to).
Presently having hormonal migraines lasting around a week. once in a while they will hang on for two but not often thank God.
Also having barometric migraines- which are my nemesis right now.
enviromental and food migraines are better to avoid most of the time.
Thanks for listening Ann

I was diagnosed with migraines in high school and am sure I have had them my whole life.  I also have been round the bend with different preventatives and abortives.  Currently I am in one of my bad cycles.  My neuro is currently looking at adding Cymbalta to my meds, but with the others that I am on I was concerned about interactions so I am waiting to hear back about that.

I know how hard it is to miss work, had to take off yesterday for a trip to the ER.  Luckliy my work is very flexable about sick days and I can work from home so I am in a "good" position there.  My best adivice is to keep trying different doctors until you find one who will work with you.  My current neuro is the first to agree that we have to do something about my menstral cycles as they are the biggest trigger by far.

Here is hoping for you.

Hi! Yeah just because I am at a point where little helps I do not want to be discouraging to anyone because there are numerous meds to try diet changes etc.
But you are right in checking about drug interactions- people individually react different to single meds like aspirnin
When you start mixing meds- that is opening a whole different can of worms.
Only you Know how you feel.
If you can get hold of a good drug book for reference-Dr. offices replenish their books regularly and I am not sure if theyare allowed to give the used volumes to the public
Thanks for your words of encouragement.
