Hi all

I am new to the site and would appreciate some help on the best (or worse) treatments and prevention...

I will try to keep this brief.....

I have suffered from right side migraine - tingle in hand about 1 hr later, up arm into head and banging headache - 24 hrs fine (all linked to my monthly cycle) for well over 20 years and managed OK on various meds.

about 10 years ago I had my first left sided migraine, which was very different as it came with no warning - eyes went first and then the headache within mins. Then I am rough for days. I was hospitalised for this one as they suspected a stroke - but put it down to migraine. This happened once again the following year and then I had a cluster of them for about 3 - 4 months about 4 years ago .....

Then 2 years ago, I had a C section and haemorrhaged badly and had multiply blood clots, one of which was in my head and I did have a minor stroke. It has taken me almost 2 years to start to see the woods for the trees…. And get over the stroke

But I am now getting the odd good day, which means I am more able to feel the migraines. It all sounds mixed up, but I did not know until recently that you could have migraine symptoms without the banging headache. I had just assumed that the facial numbness, fuzzy eyes, weak left arm, nausea and head pain (although not banging) was due to the stroke. (The stroke effected my left side, in the same place as the migraine symptoms!)

Now I have managed to do a bit of research I can see why my doc thinks it is migraine - it looks like the stroke may have left me with another type of migraine. However, I have the symptoms on a daily basis, to varying degrees depending on what I am doing, (yep I have had numb face and head pain, for 2 years now) I cannot work or socialise and the triggers seem to be everything in the book! food, smells, light, hormones, concentration, stress etc etc I am very new to all this research and concentration is one of the things that sets it off (catch 22!)

I seem to be living on Imigram and Amitriptalin at the moment, but I am sure there must be better meds out there and really I need to look at prevention… so, to save me loads of research, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on where I should start and what kind of questions I should be asking... (I really am not lazy, its just concentration makes it worse)...
