After years of suffering from chronic debilitating migraines, I was put on topamax and it decreased the frequency and really decreased the severity of my migraines.
But I just recently had 5 kidney stones which I am still being treated for. So my neurologist is now trying to find another preventive medication for my migraines. He tried inderal but not only I was so exhausted that I could barely function and I ended up with a 48 hour migraine and a recurring migraine for the next 3 days afterwards so now he is trying amitriptyline. It also seems to be making me tired some and I am not yet at full dosage and I am still on the Topamax again so I am not sure whether I am going to get the migraines again. Anyone want to comment on this preventive? I hate to even experiment. I thought I finally had a life again. Will amitriptyline work? Will I be so tired I won't be able to work? Topamax was really working for me. It's scary trying to find something else.
