Last year after stopping hormonal birth control that I had been on for 12 years I had terrible non stop migraines so I was put on Topomax. I take 75mg at night. I also take 60mg of Cymbalta that was prescribed for OCD/anxiety. The topomax has worked really well for my Migraines.

Here's my problem...I'm tired all the time. I never feel rested, I can take a nap any day of the week, any time of the day. I'm only 34, I don't have any kids...so it's not like I'm running around crazy with children. I work 4 10 hours shifts, I exercise (but I have to kick myself to do it) and I eat right. The only thing I can think of is maybe this combination of medication is making me super tired.

Anyway, I've had to go back on the pill so I'd like to stop the topomax to see if that helps with my energy levels.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions??....

I'm not sure if the combo of meds is causing the tiredness, so I can't help you there.  If you stop the Topamax, remember that you must do it slowly.  I would definitely consult your doctor regarding any change in meds.  I'm glad that Topamax helped your migraines.  It didn't help mine and gave me permanent brain imparement.  It killed my short-term memory, and gave me several other problems that are irreversible.  It's a dangerous medication, so please be very careful.

Leigh Anne-

You lost your short term memory after taking Topomax?

When I first started going to my neurologist for the headaches / fibromyalgia, he actually put me on topomax. I was only on it for about 2 weeks when (after taking the samples he had given me) I went to get my Rx filled and my pharmacist told me that it was interacting with the Estrogen in my BC (which I've been on for about 7 years because I also have Endometriosis). I stopped taking the Topomax because I greatly enjoy the whole "not having a kid" thing...

Anywho, since then- my short-term memory went down the drain... I can't remember ANYTHING!

Seriously- I'm going to keep 3M in business with as many yellow sticky notes that I use just to make it through the day.

I JUST weaned myself off Topomax....took my last dose last night. I have been on 200mg for almost four years and never thought it helped me, but they kept me on it. I have always had issues with it. I have been unable to come up with the words I want to say, can't remember anything, I can’t spell anymore at all. I have felt like I have the memory of my 80 year old Grandmother. I can see improvement already; I hope it continues to improve even more.

I reduxed my intake by 50 mg. every 3-5 days. I had trouble sleeping for the fist few days, but I am back on trake now.

Hey Josh's Girl and Stayce92,

Thanks so much for your posts.  I have struggled with several memory deficits ever since I start that poisonous Topamax years ago.  It's comforting to hear other people who have experience mental problems from this med, although I am so sorry that you had a similar outcome as mine.  I was on a high dosage of Topamax(400mg/day), and that may be why my brain functions are more seriously impared that most users.  The craziest thing was that the DR.(senile old coot) want to up my dosage to 800mb/day!!!  Heavens, if I had gone along with that, I'd probably be an a home for "vegetables", sitting mindlessly in front of the TV watching Judge Judy all day!!!  If you have any questions about longterm problems, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Leigh Ann skull
